Most Christians feel a strong desire for justice to be upheld, even though we are so very grateful for the grace we’ve been given by our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ. In our imperfect ways we attempt to live out Micah 6:8. “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” The Holy Spirit wells up within us a desire for true justice, a sense for showing the mercy we’ve been shown, and a compelling to walk in close relationship with God. When any of these things are missing within our lives, we feel a sort of holy discontent.
What about those who haven’t experienced the grace, mercy, and love of God which results in a transformed life? Not every conservative is a Christian and even liberals have a sense of justice (although misconstrued according to the Word of God); both of these latter groups also desire to see their own views of justice upheld and feel highly offended when it is delayed or refused.
What is the common denominator? What pushes us to act a certain way or hold to certain expectations?
Dan Hayden, in his book Singing In The Dark, presents one possible answer to this perplexing question:
“The answer lies in the character of God. Humanity was made in the image and likeness of God. Obviously, sin has marred that image, but down deep, even lawless people don’t like to be lied to; they appreciate reliability in their cohorts. The image of God is there—even in our depravity.” (p. 74; emphasis mine)
“The image of God is there—even in our depravity.” If we will give that some serious thought, it explains a lot of things. God’s image is so impressed upon our being that His character comes through His creation, even if sin has twisted it to our own desire and means.
The image of God is there; that’s why we have such a strong desire within us to show compassion and mercy in the form of empathy, as our first Decency Minute points out. The Christian’s responsibility is to know the Word of God that we might show true compassion and empathy to our fellow image bearers. Rather than tolerating the sin and lostness, we must point to the truth and the healing that Jesus brings to those who will seek Him and repent of their sin. A twisted sense of empathy does not show love, mercy, or compassion; it only shows an acceptance of injustice and a solidifying of a sinner’s road to hell.
The image of God is there, calling us to clean out our own “reflecting pool,” as shown in our second Decency Minute. Who doesn’t want to become better? Isn’t that part of the reason so many make New Year’s resolutions? Again, sin can twist our idea of what better is; might we go to the Word of God to learn what true righteousness and holiness is. We must not only pray for our nation to become revived and “cleaned up,” Christians must put feet to their prayers. We need to be singing the praises of our God and declaring His goodness and works in the public. (I Chron. 16:23-25) We must be about the business of our Heavenly Father, even as Jesus was while He walked upon this earth. We ought to be contending for the FAITH, the same faith which this great nation was founded upon.
The image of God is there, that is why we give the warning of “MAYDAY!” as our third and final Decency Minute declares. “The image of God is there – even in our depravity,” so each side shouts out the warning cry that their side leads to life and the other side leads to destruction. It’s vital that we KNOW the Word of God and base our declarations on it. Might we show examples from history which support God’s Word and let us with diligence, conviction, and urgency pass the Truth on to our children and our children’s children. In all that we do, might we be about answering the question: What does the Bible say about that?
As we go through this weekend and into the coming weeks, might we realize that ALL are image bearers of God, deserving of truth and mercy and love. Let us be bold enough to “do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.”
Empathizing Ourselves Out of Existence
Empathy means putting oneself in someone else’s shoes and it was once considered a virtue. Lately, however, empathy has earned a negative connotation for itself.
The left is weaponizing misplaced empathy and it threatens all of us, says hotair.com.
That article falls right in line with the titles of some recent books which have come from Christian authors: Toxic Empathy by Allie Beth Stuckey and The Sin of Empathy by Joe Rigney, for example.
A more mainstream book by Gad Saad is entitled Suicidal Empathy: Dying to be Kind; that book was hyped by names like Joe Rogan, Elon Musk and Marc Andreessen.
When empathy causes us not to charge criminals, as in the hotair story mentioned above, or not deport illegal aliens, or to allow distraught mothers to murder their unborn children, it is no longer merciful, but violent.
America is empathizing itself right out of existence.
Cleaning Up the Reflecting Pool
A reporter asked President Trump why he’s fixing up the Reflecting Pool, while there’s war in Iran. Trump replied, “You know why? Because I want to keep our country beautiful and safe. They had to take truckloads of garbage out of that water. And it sat there for years like that.”
Decades ago, I walked with my children along the National Mall and was shocked at the unkempt conditions and the scum floating in the once majestic Reflecting Pool. At the time, it seemed to me a metaphor of a faltering, declining America. How much truer that is today.
Yet the Left not only criticizes President Trump’s efforts to restore a national landmark, they’re enraged at any attempt to stop the far greater moral corruption of our nation.
America’s decline stems from an abandonment of God, and only spiritual revival can reverse it.
The term “Mayday,” repeated three times, is an international distress signal, indicating a life-threatening emergency.
Ironically, May first – also known as May Day – is historically known as a Soviet Union Communist workers’ holiday, and this year the Communist Party USA rallied workers to “rise against MAGA.”
1) Around 600 extremist groups linked with the Democratic Party, organized 3,000 protests across America. 2) Thousands of teachers and students, backed by the NEA, took the day off to protest with taxpayer dollars. 3) Hollywood elites like Robert De Niro joined them.
Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! The Democratic Party has been overtaken by Communists and Islamic extremists; they’re infiltrating our schools, discipling our children, and capturing our younger generations.
Men and women of God, rise up and declare truth. Stand for righteousness; train the younger generations in the nurture and admonition of the Lord!
