3 in 3 for 04-17-26

Each day we at American Decency Association wade through the news of the day as we engage in the calling which God has given us to be salt and light in this darkened, decaying culture.  Much of the news is discouraging, infuriating, or simply heart-wrenching.

It brings to mind an old song by Buddy Greene: I Don’t Belong (Sojourner’s Song). It opens with these lyrics:  It’s not home where men sell their souls and the taste of power is sweet. Where wrong is right and neighbors fight, while the hungry are dying in the streets. Where kids are abused, and women are used, and the weak are crushed by the strong. Nations gone mad, Jesus is sad, and I don’t belong.

Thankfully, this world is not our home and one day God will make all those wrongs right.  Until then, it can be tempting to just put our heads in the sand.  However, we’re not called to be ostriches, but lights on a lampstand.  The calling not only for us at American Decency, but for each and every Christian, is to push back against the darkness.

So, as our first Decency Minute below reveals new details of how our nation’s Justice Department inflicted injustice and oppression, we are to seek to prevent those who “decree iniquitous decrees,” (Isaiah 10:1) from gaining power again.

And when our second Decency Minute warns that a nation which protects plants, but not people is deserving of God’s judgment – we Christians have a two-fold calling: to strive to rescue those innocent lives being slaughtered, and to try to turn back a nation stumbling toward its own demise as a result of this abomination.  (“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.” Proverbs 24:11)

In addition to our external calling, our third Decency Minute reminds us that we have an internal one as well – to guard our hearts and minds and live lives pleasing to the Lord.  A timeless quote from J.C. Ryle reminds us: “But to walk closely with God—to be really spiritually minded—to behave like strangers and pilgrims—to be distinct from the world in employment of time, in conversation, in amusements, in dress—to bear a faithful witness for Christ in all places—to leave a savor of our Master in every society—to be prayerful, humble, unselfish, good-tempered, quiet, easily pleased, charitable, patient, meek—to be jealously afraid of all manner of sin, and tremblingly alive to our danger from the world—these, these are still rare things! They are not common among those who are called true Christians, and, worst of all, the absence of them is not felt or bewailed as it should be.”

Don’t let the evil around us demoralize you.  We were each placed in this nation and at this time in history for a purpose.  In the midst of this corrupt and depraved civilization, Christ’s assignment for His Church could not be clearer.  And as we live out the gospel, each point of light helps dispel the darkness.

As you read or listen to the commentaries below, it would be an encouragement to us if you would share this email with others.

Injustice Exposed

Looking ahead to the midterm elections in a few months, it’s helpful to spend some time recalling what life was like under a far-left government just a few years ago.

Recent firings by Trump’s Department of Justice and the release of a 900-page report bring to mind once more how Biden’s DOJ weaponized the FACE act against peaceful, pro-life protestors.

The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act is intended to ensure that protestors are not physically blocking access or threatening patrons on either side of the abortion issue – neither churches nor clinics.

The left used the FACE act, however, to arrest people praying outside abortion clinics, while neglecting to even pursue arsonists who attacked pro-life counseling centers.

The recent report and subsequent firings remove all doubt that the DOJ was biased against pro-life activists. We must not allow this malevolence to regain political power.

Plants vs. People

The Minnesota legislature is debating a bill to recognize the inherent right to life.

Not the inherent right to life for babies, however.  Rather, Minnesota is seeking to protect the right to life for a native species of wild rice. One person testifying on behalf of the rice actually said: “This bill … recognizes the plant’s inherent right to live exists because it is alive.”  Yet in Minnesota, unborn babies – who are very much alive – can be killed up to the moment of birth.

Wild rice is granted more protection and more worth than babies.

In the U.S., over one million are killed through abortion each year.  Psalm 106 says: “they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters … Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people.”

Our nation is deserving of God’s wrath.  Pray for true repentance.

Seek Ye First

I was thinking this morning how there are so many videos, podcasts, and pictures, and advertisements for this and that.  So many images without any warnings whatsoever, for the young particularly.

And, I was thinking about the days of my parenting and always trying to keep aware of what my kids were watching.  Recognizing how I had gone through a season of dealing with the issue of pornography and dealing with God’s truth about such things.  Like: “I will place no wicked thing before my eyes” and so many other verses such as “Pursue holiness without which no man shall see the Lord.”

I want to pray these words this morning.  Father God: You know the challenges so many face with living the adult life, let alone the youth, in regard to the explosion of images and ideas that run directly opposite your heart cry for holiness. Draw us to yourself – that we will not lose sight of your words:  Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
