3 in 3 for 9-19-25

By: Steve Huston

We not only live in a fast-paced world, it’s a world that is quickly changing its values. With such rapid-fire change, we can sometimes become dizzy as our head spins trying to keep up with it all. If we aren’t careful, technology, styles, trends, spirituality, political issues, and standards of morality, decency, perceptions of right and wrong can make us question our own sanity and Biblical correctness. It doesn’t help when many churches have lightened their approach in speaking Biblically on certain topics in order to be more acceptable to worldly congregants.

For example, a recent Christian Post article quoted George Barna, stating:

The job of the local church is to educate people about God’s ways,” he said. “Yet, a 2019 Pew Research study that analyzed sermon content across the nation determined that just 3% of all sermons preached even mentioned sin. That’s a devastating bodyblow to the Church world.

Students will remain ignorant when their teachers fail to inform them of critical information and consequences,” he added. “For an overwhelming majority of Christian churches to suppress the reality of sin, its consequences, and its solutions from the people those churches serve is a travesty.

To be fair, I have no idea how wide the survey was or if any conservative churches were questioned. Regardless, that’s an extremely troubling number when one considers the fact that sin is a major topic of the Bible and central to the topics of salvation and one’s eternity. It affects our society and government, likely in deeper ways than most of us imagine.

As one reads this week’s Decency Minute scripts below or listens to Bill Johnson narrate them by clicking on their titles, we can see how this rapid change away from our Biblical moorings has affected our society, government, and the church.

Even if we have been steadfast and faithful, with such rapid changes of life around us, we may be tempted to fear or question where we stand. We might feel like the Israelites of old, standing with their backs against the Red Sea while the chariots of Egypt were about to overtake them. Moses told this massive group of people to fear not, to stand still, and to see the salvation of the Lord. He then promised, “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace” (Exodus 14:14).

As Daniel Schrock wrote for Beside the Still Waters: “If we feel so pressured that we move along with society, we won’t be able to discern where we are going or how far we are drifting. We must always stand still and seek wisdom from the Lord before changing our position.

God doesn’t always “open the Red Sea” behind us; sometimes He simply walks through “the valley of the shadow of death” with us. Regardless, He is faithful; let us stand steadfast in the faith. His plans and ways are perfect.

Needed: Righteous Government and Culture

In the aftermath of the murder of Charlie Kirk, many on the left publicly and proudly celebrated his death.

In response, many on the right have rallied to condemn their celebration of evil and demand that those in positions of influence be removed.

How can teachers or nurses or anyone who celebrates the assassination of Charlie Kirk be trusted to serve those who believe in the truths that Charlie preached.

It’s not “cancel culture,” it’s demanding that our culture have a regard for human life and a respect for each other. If you can’t manage that, you don’t need to be a part of it.

The right has wasted too much time working toward a neutral government and culture when we should be working toward a righteous government and culture – one based on truth rather than the slippery slope of easily manipulated public opinion.

What Is Success?

What do you consider is important for a successful life?  That question was asked in a poll of Gen Z adults – aged 18 to 29.

Surprisingly, young men who voted for Trump, list having children as most important for a successful life.  Conservative men place having a family – above financial security – as their number one priority.

However, the poll shows the exact opposite for women.  Young women who voted for Kamala Harris list having children dead last.  Only 6% of young liberal women viewed marriage and children as a priority.

They’ve bought the poisonous lie that feminism has whispered – that motherhood is oppressive and happiness is found in selfishness.  Yet the result has been depression and despair.

Christians know the truth that Gen Z women need to hear: children aren’t a burden, but a blessing, and true fulfillment won’t be found in anything other than Christ.

Lord, grant us true repentance!

President Trump shared his “America Prays” initiative, urging Americans to pray for revival prior to our 250th “Super Centennial.” He rightly assessed, “When faith gets weaker, our country seems to get weaker. When faith gets stronger…good things happen for our country…”

Yet, without repentance there will be no revival. When Barna reveals that only 52% of Americans believe that everyone has sinned – including 66% of professing Christians – it’s painfully obvious that repentance and revival can only come by God’s gracious Hand.

Even though Papua New Guinea has a National Repentance Day, Dr. Jack Urame states, “Repentance is a way of life, acknowledging God as the source of our life, our country, and our very existence. Yet, the way we live as a nation does not reflect that we have truly repented or changed our way of life.

Lord, grant us true repentance!
