Next week is the week of Thanksgiving and, while it’s always encouraging to meditate on the blessings God has given to us, for some of the items below, it’s necessary to recall that God doesn’t just expect us to be thankful when things are going our way.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
A wicked culture, corrupt politicians, educational institutions teaching lies, adversaries spying on us – even these are the circumstances God tells us to be thankful in.
It’s amazing that the world can still surprise us in new ways with wickedness and betrayal, and yet we can always take refuge in the knowledge that even these messed up situations are still under the almighty control of our omnipotent Father.
No matter what happens, we can always be thankful for His loving hand orchestrating everything for the ultimate good of His people.
Recently, Representative Brad Sherman was caught scrolling through lewd photos of women while on a crowded airplane.
Pornography has become so common, that a congressman didn’t think twice about viewing it – even in public. And the response, for the most part, has been apathetic. What once would have been roundly condemned, has become nothing more than a joke for late-night comedians.
Yet pornography is no laughing matter. It’s an epidemic which victimizes women and children, destroys marriages, and corrupts not only individuals, but an entire culture.
For millions of Americans, to condemn the congressman, would mean condemning themselves – for they, too, are caught in the snare of pornography.
Jeremiah 6:15 says: “Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed; they did not know how to blush.”
America has become a culture that no longer knows how to blush.
American Universities are Filled with Lies and Spies
In a recent Fox News interview, President Trump claimed that allowing 600,000 Chinese students into the U.S. is necessary to keep universities from going out of business.
This flies in the face of Trump’s “America First” agenda. Conservatives rightly recognize that most universities are indoctrinating the next generation with leftist ideology. So how will empowering them help make America great again?
There’s also the national security risk of admitting thousands of Chinese nationals. It’s well known that the CCP requires all Chinese citizens to “support and cooperate” with China’s “national intelligence efforts.”
In the past, President Trump has rightly recognized that China is our greatest adversary, so it’s troubling that he’d compromise on this issue.
While our leaders are fallible, our Lord is not. Pray the He will protect our nation and foil the schemes of those who wish us harm.
James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
What an amazing thought, that every good thing we enjoy is a gift from our gracious and generous Heavenly Father.
Matthew 7:11 says, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
God gives the best gifts, and this holiday season, from now until New Years, is a wonderful time to meditate on what gifts God has given us, from our furnaces on cold, winter nights, to our church families; from the gas in our cars to the Word of God; from the food on our table to the Bread of life.
Give thanks with a thankful heart!
