Today, October 31, many will focus on the fact that this day is designated as Halloween, a day in which evil is celebrated as fun and innocuous; many good people don’t think of the spiritual warfare behind it. Oddly enough, it is also known as Reformation Day, a day in which we gratefully remember Martin Luther’s posting of his 95 Theses in 1517, the start of the Reformation, and God’s church being brought out of darkness into His glorious Light. Many today don’t consider the spiritual warfare that took place then either.
As we consider today’s three Decency Minutes, we might arguably say that all three of them are scarier than Halloween. However, I would have us consider something that is scarier than Halloween and even scarier than our Decency Minutes: An eternity without Christ. Dear Reader, NOTHING you will experience and nothing you can think of is scarier than this.
When Jesus spoke of Hell, He spoke of it as a real place and always in terrifying terms. There are many in the world who think of Hell as a joke; few take the thought of Hell seriously anymore. This lack of understanding is shown by flippant statement like: “It’s hotter than Hell.” “That’s funny as Hell.” Or even, “All my friends will be there.”
By God’s grace and love I am constrained to say that Hell IS real and to remind us that Jesus’ words paint a different and terrifying picture of that place of eternal torment and damnation. Three times in Mark the 9th chapter, Jesus referred to the lost who enter Hell as going to a place “where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” And in Luke 12:4-5 Christ urges us to fear God as being the One who can send us to such a fearful place as Hell. “And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”
In Luke 16:19-31, Jesus tells the account of the rich man and Lazarus. I exhort our readers to go and read this portion of Scripture; see a reiteration of the torments already mentioned and others which are made plain there.
The scariest part of Hell is that it is for eternity; there is no escape except this side of eternity. One will not simply spend some time in Purgatory, expiating their sins before going to Heaven. People in Hell have no hope of any kind; they are trapped forever “where their worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched.”
Scripture itself is clear and, thanks in part to the Reformation, we can know that escape from Hell this side of eternity is available. There is only one way out; there’s only door that makes escape from Hell possible, but it must be walked through before we walk through eternity’s door: Jesus the Christ is that Door. Jesus is the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one can go to God the Father except through Jesus. We must believe on His atoning work on the cross for our sin. We must repent before it is too late. The horrors of Hell are equal in degree to the glories found in Christ and in Heaven.
The Light which the Reformation stands for dispels the evil that Halloween represents. I pray that we all shall repent and spend eternity in Heaven, not simply to escape Hell, but to the glory, honor, and praise of God’s Holy name. Our desire should be to see Jesus and rejoice forever and ever.
Even as the rich man in Luke 16 desired for Abraham to send one from the dead to warn his brothers so that they might escape sharing his eternal doom, we who are alive and living in Christ should have that same concern for the souls around us. May we be about the business of sharing the ONLY escape from Hell, pointing to the Door of Jesus Christ.
While our Decency Minutes may be scarier than Halloween, they most definitely are not scarier than Hell. Thank God for the Reformation, and, more importantly, thank God for His grace and His sending Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. We should be so grateful to be brought out of darkness and into His glorious light.
Will Islam fill Europe’s Christian vacuum?
For years we’ve seen the downfall of Europe. European nations first abandoned the Christian faith, then abandoned the principles of freedom. Censorship has exploded, with governments determining what can and can’t be said. In England, the police arrest 12,000 Brits a year for social media posts which go against government-approved viewpoints.
Then there’s the mass immigration of Islamists who have no interest in assimilation, but rather colonization – seeking to undermine western civilization and law. Sex crimes by Islamic migrants have soared, yet are often overlooked by European governments at expense of their own citizens. Meanwhile, Sharia law is spreading. Eighty-five Sharia courts are operating in Great Britain alone.
Recently I interviewed Austrian Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff who has courageously stood against the Islamification of Europe. Listen to her compelling account on the podcast tab of our website. Find our podcasts at americandecency.org.
NOTE: Several years ago, we posted an article of observation and warning in regard to the Christian and moral vacuum that was being created here in America and the dangers of Islam. Click here to read it.

I am old enough to remember when the citizens of New York City were scandalized by the idea of building a mosque at the site of the Islam-inspired 9/11 terrorist attack.
Just a few decades later, and that city is on the cusp of electing a mayor who shares the faith of those who perpetrated the atrocity.
Did New Yorkers lose their minds?
No!
We just imported a whole new constituency to New York City over the last 24 years!
When NYC voters are broken down into the categories of native born and foreign born, it’s foreign-born voters who are pushing Zohran Mamdani to seemingly unassailable popularity.
Mass deportation and immigration restrictions can’t come soon enough or be taken seriously enough.
Immigration and voter integrity may have fallen out of the spotlight, but these are still some of the most important issues in America today.

Under the guise of protecting public health and preparing for the next pandemic, the World Health Organization and European Union have launched a new AI-powered platform known as Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources 2.0; it tracks online conversations, social media, and so-called “misinformation” in real time.
WHO states that its goal is to understand people’s “attitudes, knowledge, beliefs, and intentions.”
According to reclaimthenet.org, this always-on digital network that watches, classifies, and evaluates global discourse now “operates in more than 110 countries and collaborates with over 30 organizations, including national governments and the European Commission. It’s offered ‘free of charge’ to eligible users, along with training materials and support.”
Patrick Wood warns, “The strategy is to encircle the globe and then squeeze the U.S. into compliance. Offenders will be detected and punished in real time.”
Beware, WHO may soon be listening to you!
