Living a godly life means to live according to God’s Instruction Manual (the Bible) combined with a zealous love for Him. Such godliness has always been necessary for joy-filled living (which is different from happiness), and has always been under attack, right from the beginning of time in the Garden. The Apostle Paul gives us words of both blessing and warning regarding such godliness: “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” (I Tim. 6:6) and “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” (II Tim. 3:12)

We urge you to consider these truths as you listen to the following Decency Minutes narrated by Bill Johnson (simply click on the titles) or as you read them below.

Absent from the body BUT present with the Lord

In recent weeks, Americans have mourned the senseless murder of nursing student, Laken Riley, at the hands of a violent illegal from Venezuela.

Joe Biden is complicit in Laken’s murder.  If our border was secure and her murderer has been prevented from illegal entry, she, and countless others, would still be alive today.

While Laken’s death was avoidable, may it not be in vain.  Laken’s mother posted a message to parents, stating: “…there is no greater gift that you can give your children than to walk alongside them and help them develop their relationship with Jesus. … I know my sweet Laken knew Jesus personally and she will live eternally in His home. … There is no way to honor my precious Laken more than to give your life to Jesus.”

May Laken Riley’s murder be the seed that brings forth a bountiful harvest of souls.

Dignity of Life

In 1998, Michigan’s Governor Engler signed into law a ban on assisted suicide. Last November, a package of bills was introduced in the Michigan State Senate to legalize physician-assisted suicide: a practice of allowing doctors to prescribe lethal doses of drugs to their patients for the purpose of committing suicide.

The Michigan State Medical Society reaffirmed their opposition to this practice, as did the American Medical Association, stating that it’s “fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer.”

Those who support these bills call them the “Death with Dignity Act,” but that doesn’t change the fact that lives are being ended prematurely or that it’s a short step from a choice one makes to a duty one feels forced into.

Call your State Senator today at 517-373-2400; urge them to support the dignity of life by voting NO on the Death with Dignity Act bills. Call 517-373-2400.

Dangerous Affirmation

One of my favorite books over the last couple of years has been Michael Perkin’s book entitled Dangerous Affirmation.  Subtitled The Threat of Gay Christianity.

One of the reasons that it is a favorite book is its very straight forward approach in giving clear Biblical and therefore godly counsel as to how godless, foolish and damaging it is for the Christian church to so recklessly and unwisely infect and affect the Christian church with such blatant godlessness – as it demeans God’s Holy Name and wrongly affirms so-called Gay Christianity.

Yet, several regarded well-attended churches in Grand Rapids bring in well-traveled speaker Preston Sprinkles to spread untruths and foster confusion and speak in the ranks of many both young and old. How do we know what a godly life looks like? The Word of God incarnate, Jesus the Christ, showed us what a godly life looks like. He is the “grace of God that bringeth salvation [and] hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” (Titus 2:11-12) Read the Gospels and you’ll get a portrait of what a godly life looks like: spending much time alone in prayer with the Heavenly Father; standing up boldly for Biblical truth, even if you’re misunderstood for doing so; being consumed with doing the will of the Father; walking in obedience regardless the shame or physical pain you might be forced to endure; doing as much good as you can, with compassion, while pointing to your Father in Heaven; teaching by word and example the grace and truth of Jesus motivated by love for God and love for men; and, of course, this is not done in our own power – we rely on the leading and empowering of the Holy Spirit indwelling us.

How can we be sure the standard of right and wrong? The Bible is clear; it says what it means and means what it says. There aren’t nearly as many gray areas as the 21st century church would have us to believe there are. Yes, we need the Holy Spirit to help us interpret the Bible correctly, but gray areas mostly come from a desire to live on the fringes, chasing after our own lusts, as opposed to strongly directing our steps to the denial of personal lusts and the desire to be in the center of God’s will.

May God help us to faithfully discern and to so walk in His ways, keeping His commands both in obedience and in treasuring them in our hearts.
