3 in 3 for 1/19/24

By: Steve Huston

All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Whether one reads the following Decency Minutes scripts or listens to Bill Johnson narrate them by clicking on the title, we can’t help but recognize the mighty power of God and the powerful defeat of Satan at the cross.

It’s the power of Christ spoiling principalities and powers (Col. 2:15) and leading captivity captive (Eph. 4:8) that gives us the power to become the sons of God, making us white as snow, through faith in God’s gracious gift of the atoning work done at Calvary. It’s the providential, sovereign power of God that blessed us with the form of government we have, allowing us to enjoy life and liberty, giving “We the People” a powerful voice through Congress. It’s the power of God sharing Truth with us and giving us the strength and grace to walk in His unchanging Word. O the keeping power of Christ that can keep us “salty in a decaying world. What a wonderful, merciful God and Saviour we serve.

All hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all!

White as Snow

Last week, much of the country suffered through an “arctic blast.” As my granddaughter was looking out the window one morning at a white-covered world that had been brown when she’d gone to bed, she said, you should talk about the snow for work, about how Jesus’ blood covers our sin and makes us white as snow.

I thought that was a pretty good idea!

The snow can make an ugly brown landscape so beautiful when it covers the leafless trees and the brown grass and the grimy roads. Suddenly everything looks crisp and fresh, instead of blah and lifeless.

That is an appropriate image of how Christ’s perfect life and sacrificial death covers our grimy sin, making us clean in the sight of God.

One of these days, of course, the brown will be back. But thank God, we know that Christ was so perfect, his sacrifice covers ALL of our sins.

Did You Know This About Congress?

Much emphasis is understandably put on the election of our president, but did you know that a congress that stays within its constitutionally defined boundaries has greater power than the president and can do much to restore good government?

All spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives, meaning they COULD put a stop to this runaway government spending, regardless the wishes of the Senate and president.

Congress also has the constitutional means to rein in a rogue president. They can do this by cutting off the funding to his mischief or by impeaching and removing that president from office.

We urge you to pay attention to the way your congressmen are voting. Is it in accordance with constitutional principles? Is it Biblically aligned? Let them know what you think of their record, hold them accountable at the ballot box, and create awareness of their voting with others.

Contrary to What Christianity Today Says, the Salt Must Not Lose Its Savor

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

This warning from our Lord is one many American Christians should heed.

Recently, the publication Christianity Today posted this troubling statement, quoting: “When it comes to gendered language, these Christian leaders agree on three things: Everything is changing so fast. We’re figuring it out together. And we should give each other grace.”

While our culture is changing, God’s Word and His design do not change. We don’t need to ‘figure it out together’ – as Christianity Today claims – we only need to look to the authority of Scripture.

Showing grace doesn’t mean condoning sin.  We’re called to live distinctively from the world, not compromise with it.

Praise His royal, majestic, powerful name!

Oh, that with all the sacred throng
we at his feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song
and crown him Lord of all.
We’ll join the everlasting song
and crown him Lord of all.
