See You At The Library this Saturday (August 5)

By: Steve Huston

A local library should reflect the values of its community and should hold a desire to be a safe haven of thought, entertainment, and education. Parents need to be involved in what their children are viewing/reading and have not only a right but a duty to speak into what is offered.

Thomas Sowell speaks clearly and correctly, “Parents have not only a right but a duty to object when their children are being used as objects for other people’s ideological crusades, especially when brainwashing replaces education in the public schools. Let the ideologues argue their ideas openly with adults in the marketplace of ideas, not take cowardly advantage of children behind their parents’ backs.” (Emphasis mine)

Enter, the American Library Association (ALA), not discounting the many good individual librarians throughout our nation, the ALA (complete with a Marxist lesbian president) has long been overtaken by Marxist ideology bent on warping the minds of Americans, particularly young Americans, in order to bring about the moral fall of this great nation; this, in turn, brings down America. Like the tree whose insides are rotted cannot stand the test of a tempest storm, neither can a nation long stand when its moral strength and virtue have met with decades of decay. So yes, parents, and elected officials, have a duty to speak out against harmful ideologies, protecting their children and the future of their nation.

In recent years we’ve witnessed handfuls of parents taking a stand against both the public school system and against drag queen story hour. Thankfully, we are now seeing some state legislatures taking a stand against this Marxist-run identity known as the American Library Association.

The Federalist reports, “Conservative lawmakers in GOP state legislatures across the country have ignited a movement to disassociate local libraries from the American Library Association (ALA).

On Thursday, three more chapters of conservative state Freedom Caucuses, including Arizona, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania, endorsed the Montana State Library Commission’s move this month to sever ties with the ALA and encouraged their own libraries to do the same. Another prominent conservative lawmaker in Texas called on his state’s Library and Archives Commission to follow suit after the ALA elected an avowed Marxist as president.

The South Carolina Freedom Caucus wrote, “We join other state Freedom Caucuses and call on the [South Carolina] Library Association to leave the NLA. It’s time to stop using taxpayer money to fund Marxist organizations corrupting our kids.

Texas Rep. Brian Harrison (R) wrote, “Texas should fight Marxist ideology, not subsidize it.

Leaving the ALA is not equivalent to dumping your local library; it’s bringing it back under community control. It gives a community the ability to promote the values that best express the morality and views of each particular locality. Pulling various states’ libraries out of the ALA is only part of this email; we want to encourage you to participate in something good and godly at these libraries this Saturday.

(From Brave Books’ website) “Kirk Cameron, alongside BRAVE Books, has been visiting libraries and holding story hours across the country to teach kids about faith, hope, and love. On August 5, 2023, we are calling on all families who love God and love America to gather at our local public libraries to pray, sing, and read BRAVE Books and other books of virtue. Imagine thousands of local public libraries filled by you, your friends, your pastors, your teachers and your local representatives on this date.

“We are on a mission to turn our nation back to God. Are you with us? If so, we want to See YOU at the Library on August 5!” (Video invitation here)

August 5 is only 3 days away (this Saturday)! Here is a link to find a library near you that is hosting one of these See You At The Library events. There are over 270 libraries participating and almost every state in America is represented. There are five of these SYATL events scheduled in Michigan (Kent District Library, Allegan District Library, Ransom District Library, Marshall District Library, and Hillsdale Community Library).
