God’s Got This

By: Steve Huston

It’s easy to get discouraged when we look around and see the world acting as the world and unbelievers acting as unbelievers; we find it downright distasteful and rightfully so. It also leaves a bitter taste in our “mouths” when we see those who claim the name of Christ living like the world instead of the Body of Christ or when their actions seem apathetic toward the Kingdom of God. We shake our heads when the Body doesn’t follow the Head’s direction, realizing that if this were happening physically, people would rush, with urgency, to see a doctor. After all, when there is a disconnect between the head’s commands and the body’s actions, there is obviously something wrong. That puts us in a vulnerable and dangerous position. Spiritually, the same is true and we don’t like it.

In either case, we often shake our heads in amazement, asking, “What is God doing?” or “Why does God allow this?”

Even in the hardest of times and the most dangerous of situations, let us always remember that God is sovereign, His timing is perfect, and our duty is to walk in faithful obedience, fully trusting in Him. Simply put, God’s got this. Perhaps this little story will better explain my point.

A pastor asked an older farmer to say grace for the morning breakfast. “Lord, I hate buttermilk,” the farmer began. The pastor opened one eye to glance at the farmer and wondered where this was going; he also noticed that he wasn’t the only one in the room having that same thought. The farmer loudly proclaimed, “Lord, I hate lard and you know I don’t much care for raw flour either.” Then the farmer added, “But Lord, when you mix them all together and bake them, I do love warm, fresh biscuits. So, Lord, when things come up that we don’t like or understand, and life gets hard, help us to trust you and wait until you’re done mixing. It will probably be even better than biscuits. Amen.”

This story reminds me of what a popular Bible teacher used to say, “Every morning I get up and check to make sure that Romans 8:28 is still in my Bible. ‘And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.’

Dear Reader, it IS in your Bible; is it in your mind?

Let us strive to trust in the Lord with all our heart and to not lean on our own understanding. Instead, in all our ways, let’s acknowledge Him, allowing Him to direct the paths we are made to take.

While there are many things our Heavenly Father allows for a time; while we have a responsibility to action, in accordance with His sovereign will; let us never forget that our God’s hand is not shortened and He can always save. Never forget that His ear is not deaf; He hears His children. Let us always remember that God’s got this!
