3 in 3 for 8-11-23

By: Steve Huston

We all have a job to do and God-given responsibilities to fulfill. That’s the common thread of truth that runs through this week’s Decency Minutes. If we will faithfully run the race that God has set before us, we must keep our eyes focused on Jesus. In Hebrews 12:2, we read, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” That phrase “Looking unto Jesus” actually means to look AWAY FROM EVERYTHING ELSE so that we will look solely, completely on Jesus.

Puritan Isaac Ambrose wrote almost 700 pages on “Looking Unto Jesus.” He sums it up by telling his readers to look away from what is good, look away from that which is evil, and to look upon our glorious Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. In Philippians 4:8, Paul calls us to think on those things which, in their purest form, can only describe Jesus.

As we walk through these dark days, let us not get sidetracked by “good” or evil; let us walk faithfully by the light of the Word, keeping our eyes and thoughts on Jesus. Let us run faithfully the race that God has set before us.

Why Silence the “Sound of Freedom”

Sound of Freedom is a film which exposes the exploitation of child trafficking and one man’s attempt to bring the guilty to justice. It’s deeply hated by leftists and The Federalist’s J. Antonio Juarez explains why:

“…individuals want complete sexual freedom for themselves, but don’t want to think about the negative fallout that happens to those who abuse those freedoms or are victims of those who do.”

“…To admit that child sex trafficking is objectively wrong would mean that certain sexual preferences and activities are only subjectively right or permissible. Once you start that conversation, you will be calling all of the sexual and social freedoms acquired over the years into question. In short, if you start talking about the horrors of child sex trafficking and the need to do something about it, you will inadvertently build a solid case for re-instituting traditional sexual mores and building stronger families.

We’ve written an article regarding this topic here.

Stay Focused

My son’s porch is home to two litters of kittens.

As the older batch was being weaned off mama’s milk, the other mama cat had her litter, and what do you think that new mama does? Her skinny body tries to keep up with producing milk for 3 half-grown cats as well as her own babies.

You’ll see tiny cats and big cats all drinking off of the poor mama cat. Plus, the babies have to be sure to get there before the meal is all gone.

What a great picture of the temptation in our lives to let the world drain our energy from our own responsibilities.

We can get so focused on distractions, or even important things which God has not made us responsible for, that we’ve got nothing left for our actual duties.

Is something stealing your time and energy away from your God-given responsibilities?

If you like these cats, perhaps you’d be interested in a homespun article regarding a local county fair that we published here.

Roll Up Your Sleeves

When we look at the evil around us, it seems so hopeless.   Roe v. Wade was overturned, but extreme abortion policies are prevailing in state after state.  Justice is perverted as the legal system is weaponized against conservatives.

As Albert Mohler recently stated on his Daily Briefing: “In a fallen world, there are no permanent political victories. … Sin makes things move from good to bad and from bad to worse, not in the other direction. … It takes enormous discipline, even courage to stand up for truth when the truth is increasingly unpopular. …

But if we run from it, then did we sincerely believe what we said we believed about our convictions? We should expect that the fight for righteousness and justice will be a big battle till Jesus comes.

So Christian: put your hope in God, then roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Let’s close this email out with a reminder from Paul in Philippians 3:13-14.

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
