YOU are URGENTLY NEEDED in Holland this Wednesday (8/19/20)

By: Steve Huston

We urge you to attend the Holland City Council meeting (270 S. River St. in Holland, Mi.) on Wednesday, August 19 at 6:30 PM, for the final vote that is intended to greatly expand LGBTQ+ rights, while attacking your religious liberties and diminishing your rightsCOME EARLY and encourage many others to do so as well (please show up between 5:30 and 5:45 PM); we’ve been told that it is “going to be jammed with gay activists, especially since they now know that we have been able to take their spaces!!”

We strongly encouraged you to attend and speak out at last Wednesday’s council meeting; here is a brief summary of what took place:

The chamber was full with a little overflow but the LGBTQIA activists beat us to many of the chairs. The comment ratio was 8 against the ordinance changes and 9 for them (at least 2 of the 9 from out of town, one out of county).

How can it be possible that this ratio is so close?Certainly those in Holland who oppose such a measure must greatly outnumber those in support of such things that will eventually harm their fair city. The only conclusion I can come up with is that they are unaware of what their duly elected officials, in Holland, are attempting to do. Does the mindset of these Leftist, progressive, council members truly represent the residents, businesses, churches, organizations, and other individuals/groups; or are they simply uninformed? Get the word out by email, word of mouth, or social media; go around and URGE RESIDENTS, BUSINESS OWNERS, CHURCHES, AND ORGANIZATIONS to attend the City Council meetings and make their voices heard.

One man, deep in the fight for you made this observation:

At this point in the game it has become apparent to me that, except for 3 councilmen, we are no longer dealing with a council which is operating from any kind of moral value system.  I have watched their eyes glass over when we speak faith but intensely listen when liberals attack our faith and when liberal pastors ‘mush’ out their love claims.”

We urge you to show up (EARLY – 45 minutes to an hour early –the opposition is expected to) and speak up for your community, your family, and your children’s future. When it’s your turn to speak, this man, due to the “moral void” you’ll be speaking into, suggests that if you address the moral angles of this ordinance, do so in the following manner:

Ordinance supporters used the same arguments.  Here are the 8 most used arguments (from August 12) with suggested responses:

  1. Christians should not be allowed to use their beliefs to discriminate no matter what the venue but the city is being asked to do the same thing against those of faith and convictions in opposition.
  2. The council is supposed to ignore comments from faith but listens to attacks on them.  That is discrimination.
  3. LGBTQIA community loses jobs, housing, and access to services only because of their lifestyles.  This is about Holland.  WHERE ARE THE CASES?  Council has refused to examine the existence of cases or outcomes if they exist.
  4. Even if they cannot show the above discrimination, they live in fear and suppression because they could.  Every person has the power to be offended, fearful, or angered.  Those responses create victims also.
  5. Asking the council to stand on human rights, not orientations, is at least disingenuous.  No honest person can claim with a straight face or with any integrity that this is not solely about gay rights, a new carve out for so-called human rights.
  6. Love your neighbor works both ways.  Why is it a demand that “love” includes acceptance of LGBTQIA claims but their “love” is licensed to reject those in opposition?  Why is it ok to attack faith claims as irrelevant, but not ok for them to have the same value?
  7. Step out of your white straight privilege?  There is greater privilege in our current society than that for the gay community.  There is no employer or service provider which does no walk on eggshells for this issue.  To claim otherwise is being dishonest with reality.
  8. Equal rights do not mean fewer rights for anyone else is also a dishonest claim.  The whole purpose of these proceedings is to impose one small minority’s perceived “rights” upon those who oppose them.  It is foolishness to claim that imposing one person’s claims over another’s is somehow going to preserve both equally!!

Recap:Let others know(churches, businesses, residents) through social media, phone calls, conversations, or as you shop in businesses about what is going on. Urge them to join you this Wednesday, August 19 to speak up at the Holland City Council meeting held at 270 S. River St. in Holland, Mi. (across from the library). Encourage them to show up early because the other side certainly will be. (The meeting starts at 6:30 PM—if possible, be there by 5:30 or 5:45 PM).

Pray for God’s mercy upon Holland. Pray that people will fulfill their duty/responsibility in this constitutional republic. Pray that God will rule and overrule to His glory!

We are grateful to God that He has moved on the hearts and minds of our friends, showing us a little of what is inside them. Your notes of encouragement, prayers, and financial support mean so much to us; without them, we wouldn’t be able to do the important work that God has laid upon us.

Won’t you prayerfully seek the Lord’s will to come alongside us again, supporting us in whatever manner you feel led? Thank you.
