VOTE IN TOMORROW’S PRIMARY ELECTION (Tuesday, August 4, 2020)

Primary elections are often treated like “the red-headed step-child” of politics; yet it’s a vital part of the political process. Used correctly, it guarantees us to have candidates worthy of our vote. It is here, the primary vote, that we decide who will be on the ballot in November. It is now that we are able to send a message to those who will be up for re-election next time, that if they will not do their job diligently, if they will not protect our rights and use the full legal force of the constitution that is at their disposal, they will be replaced.

James A. Garfield, twentieth president of the United States, on the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, gave this solemn warning:

Now more than ever the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature. . . . If the next centennial does not find us a great nation . . . it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.

I reiterate President Garfield’s exhortation:Now more than ever the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. With the power of checks and balances firmly in their grip and the power to legislate, we must recognize that the character of our Congress will define the character of our nation. It is our duty and privilege to play this vital role in determining whose character will determine our nation’s future.

Prayerfully examine the information available to you and ask questions of the candidates. Prayerfully go to the polls tomorrow (August 4, 2020) and cast your vote for the developing character of our country. Prayerfully urge your friends and family to do likewise.

For more information regarding the importance of primary elections, read last Friday’s email alert, Of Primary Importance.

We are grateful to God that He has moved on the hearts and minds of our friends, showing us a little of what is inside them. Your notes of encouragement, prayers, and financial support mean so much to us; without them, we wouldn’t be able to do the important work that God has laid upon us.

Won’t you prayerfully seek the Lord’s will to come alongside us again, supporting us in whatever manner you feel led? Thank you.
