Sears did advertise on ABC’s “Cougar Town” not just once but twice

By: American Decency Staff

searsABC's "Cougar Town" is trash and Sears was one of the few mainstream advertisers on this perverse show. Your calls are already, making a difference.  Soon after sending today's earlier email alert out to you, a Sears rep called to claim that Sears doesn't sponsor any one particular show. I replied, call it what you will the Sears name appeared during the time frame of "Cougar Town."  Sears is an advertiser [sponsor] of "Cougar Town." Not only did Sears advertise on "Cougar Town" on Wednesday, Sears advertised during its re-showing on Friday.  It seems that ABC is so proud of this piece of filth that they wanted others to have a chance to see this wicked program in case they missed it on Wednesday. And Sears turned around and advertised on it again.  Your calls and emails to Sears will send the message to them that if their ad(s) do show up on this program they face the real possibility of losing your dollars. A few have said that the phone number we provided is no longer working.  Hmmmm.  However, as of late this afternoon the number was again working when we checked it.  It is as follows: 1-847-286-2500 or media relations at: 847-286-8371 Contact: Sears Holdings Corporation W. Bruce Johnson – Interim CEO 3333 Beverly Rd. Hoffman Estates IL  60179 Phone:  847-286-2500 Fax:  847-286-8351 For the complete list of advertisers: http://www.americandecency.org/archives/advertising-list-for-abcdisneys-cougar-town/#more-1504 Thank you for your recent correspondence. We are always interested in hearing from our customers, and regret it was this type of situation that prompted you to contact us. When advertising is purchased on television there is no intention of endorsing a specific show or any views expressed on it. Airtime and advertisements are routinely slotted to reach a broad cross section of the general public. In addition, viewers should not draw a correlation between specific programs and advertising time purchased. Once again, thank you for contacting us. Sincerely, Jennifer W., Retail Customer Care Sears Holdings Corporation ADA comments to this kind of response. This is utter nonsense.  When a company's name appears within the time frame of a particular program, it is a sponsor of that program. Sears knows that as this has always been the case. It certainly isn't the first time they have received letters of outrage regarding programs they have sponsored over the years. If they try to tell you otherwise, don't let them think you are fooled by this hyperbole. =================== One person wrote us today a concerning letter in this regard. "I called the contact number listed below to register my disappointment with  Sears sponsoring this program and they told me they DO NOT sponsor this program. Just an update to you that it be verified before passing these phone numbers to sponsors along. I did thank them for NOT sponsoring this type of program. Thank you." ——————- We've made a rare mistake in such a regard, but it is rare.  (We did verify that the Sears ad was indeed on during "Cougar Town" and did not appear locally.) Nonetheless, I would only say that many companies are very capable of trying to take the pressure off from themselves by denying they advertise when in fact they do. This is one such example. —— A special thanks to all of you who have called and/or written Sears. A special thanks to all of you who have given to the match challenge that we have mentioned over these months!  We'll give you another update tomorrow on this. ==================================== American Decency Association Bill Johnson, President P.O.
