Reversing Obergefell

Since the Garden of Eden, Satan has used various means to attack the family, God’s building block of society. When Adam chose to forsake the command of God, his sin cost him his home and the intimacy of his relationship with God; it put a strain on his relationship with his wife, and brought a continuing attack on his family which has continued without reprieve to this day. In like manner, as America has left the safety of God’s commands, drifting deeper into immorality coupled with increased technology, these attacks against the American family have increased in number and intensity. Parents, society, and the courts have written checks that America’s children are made to pay, often directly, sometimes indirectly.

American Decency and many other Christian and conservative voices have given clear warning over the years regarding these attacks against our children and the family. We’ve educated our audiences both from a biblical and a psychological standpoint that divorce, abortion, the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, and the Supreme Court’s ruling on Obergefell v. Hodges – legalizing same sex “marriage” – are harmful to our children, our society, and our nation as a whole. Also, that surrogacy and IVF only serve to commodify children, while Supreme Court decisions like Obergefell create a bull market to use these precious blessings who are tendered as “commodities.”

When the Supreme Court redefined marriage in 2015, ruling in favor of homosexual “marriage” and ruling against God’s sacred definition and design for marriage, our nation turned another several degrees away from north on our moral compass. It has affected all of our families, particularly our children, and specifically those children who are “delivered” over to such “marriages,” their rights judicially negated, placing them in harm’s way. Though not always physical harm, studies have shown the detriment to children who do not have the love and parenting styles which are displayed from both a mother and a father.

Naturally, when marriage was redefined, so were the terms “parenthood” and “family,” this also to the detriment of our nation and its children. Listen to some leading Christian conservatives to better get a grasp of what I’m trying to express:

“If we as conservatives stand for anything, it should be to tell our young people that one of the most beautiful things you can do is get married and have kids.” ~Charlie Kirk

Seth Dillon, CEO of the Babylon Bee, clearly defines: “Kids need a mom and a dad. That’s not bigotry, it’s biology.”

Highly regarded Christian conservative speakers – Dr. Al Mohler, Lila Rose, Allie Beth Stuckey, John Stonestreet, Michael Knowles, Jim Daly, Delano Squires, Tony Perkins, and Josh Hammer – unite their voices for the sake of children, families, and the future of our nation here on X.

Today, of the 195 countries around the world, 38 of them have legalized same-sex marriage. Eric Teetsel, CEO of Citizens for Renewing America, reminds us that “The family is the bedrock of society. Wherever marriage is honored and children are treasured, nations flourish; where they aren’t, they collapse. For this reason, family ought to be at the center of public policy.” Although we cannot turn back the clock, we can turn back to Biblical sanity and common sense, taking steps toward moral north once again.

On January 28^th of this year, a serious effort was launched by a coalition of 47 conservative groups, led by Them Before Us, to organize a definite plan, called the Greater Than Campaign, to overturn the Obergefell ruling. I urge you to watch Katy Faust’s 3.5-minute video introducing this campaign. Their goal is to push policy and legal action, change public opinion, and mobilize the church in order to knock down the Obergefell giant. Their core message is this: “Children are greater than equal, and it’s time we fought for their rights.”

Katy Faust explains, “Since the redefinition of marriage a decade ago, we’ve seen the consequences: parenthood treated as replaceable, and children deprived of the unique love and guidance only a mother and father can provide. Ten years of Obergefell have shown us … that children deserve better and that they are greater than adult desires.”

If you’re a Christian, you should care. If you’re a conservative, you should care. If you’re concerned about the future of our nation and maintaining our freedoms and liberties for yourself and future generations, you should care. Our silence in the face of rights being stolen from others, particularly those who have no say, only guarantees the eventual eroding of our own rights and liberty.

This is a huge job and can only be accomplished by our sovereign God and His people stepping into their responsibility of doing their part and speaking truth into a dark and deceived world. PLEASE, spread the word and pray for their success.
