Coming up on Thursday, February 13th, the American Decency Association will be showing American Family Association’s strong documentary of the life, the calling, the ministry of one of America’s greatest Christian, pro-family leaders in the 20th and early 21st centuries, the Reverend Donald E. Wildmon (1938-December 28, 2023).

Wildmon was one of the first individuals in all of America voicing spiritual/intellectual concerns regarding the deleterious effects of pornography, obscenity, and indecency upon American families by way of television. Donald Wildmon – through his sheer love for God, the church, and American families – was not only a “watchdog” tirelessly warning and exerting Christian influence upon American television, but also was used by God to convict American families (those who had the capability of being convicted) to seek to guard the hearts and minds of their children.

In addition, Wildmon orchestrated a major battle nationwide against pornography, thereby igniting many Christians to take a stand against pornography being sold so readily at checkout counters in grocery stores, gasoline stations, newsstands, etc.

I, Bill Johnson, am one who heard his clarion call and joined the battle, initially forming a chapter of the American Family Association. I left my full-time teaching position (1988) of 18 years to join the fight! We have our own rather lengthy list of impacts of a positive nature as a result of brother Donald Wildmon’s strong and godly leadership and his campaign to ignite others to join the spiritual fight that continues today.

American Family Studio’s Michael Perkins is the producer of this outstanding documentary, Culture Warrior:  Don Wildmon and the Battle for Decency.  Perkins spent four years gathering video clips and interviews of Christian leaders across the country who knew Donald Wildmon and saw his vision for the fight for decency and the need to push back against pornography in our culture – or face a culture that was doomed, increasingly desensitized to the insidious influence of pornography that degrades women, men and children and destroys families. Though the fight continues, and yes, a thankless fight,  nonetheless it is a battle that needs to be taken up with increasing courage and conviction, as well as for the need of men, women, and children to be not only educated but to be trained to have their hearts turned towards Jesus Christ  and His call to pursue holiness without which no man shall see the Lord!
