3 in 3 for 1-3-25

By: Steve Huston

This week’s Decency Minute scripts, narrated by Bill Johnson, are for the first full week of the new year. As we step into this new year, we are reminded that it is a time of new beginnings, fresh starts, and reflections on the past. At the same time, we are well aware that many of the troubles from last year, which are beyond our control, will follow us into this new year; we’re unable to escape them any more than Marley could escape his chains.

The great news is that the real solution for the troubles of this year is the same solution given to us by God last year and each preceding year. Prayerfully, with thanksgiving, make your requests known unto God and trust in His timing. There are many things that will not be made right until the Son of God returns with “healing in his wings.” How wonderful that He is our Hope, our Salvation, and that our times are in His Hands.

I urge you to step boldly into this new year, recognizing that whatever comes your way is Father-filtered; nothing comes at you except God allows it. This should be a tremendous comfort to you and fill you with His joy and love.

If you’re a true believer, no matter what comes your way, He is your only Hope and Stay.

Justice Delayed Is NOT Justice Deferred

Recently Biden commuted the death penalty of dozens of heinous murderers. He unjustly protects killers, yet condemns unborn babies to death through pro-abortion policies.

One of those murderers kidnapped Rachel Timmerman and her baby daughter, killing Rachel by chaining her to cinderblocks and throwing her in Michigan’s Oxford Lake.  The baby’s body was never found. Rachel’s bereft father lamented the injustice and the pain caused to victims’ families as Biden saved the lives of these murderers, and stated of Rachel’s killer: “Where’s the justice in just giving him a prison bed to die comfortably in?’

In Genesis, God commands the death penalty for murder, stating: “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.”

While justice may not prevail in this lifetime, the final judgment is coming where God will make all things right.

Heaven on Earth

As the ball dropped in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, as we have for the past two decades now, we heard the secular humanist dream for the future, as elucidated by John Lennon:

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too

The next day, 2 electric vehicles were used to commit terror attacks, 15 died and more were wounded.

Clearly, John Lennon’s imaginings are not coming true.

The fact is, when Americans were described by John Adams as a “Moral and Religious people,” there was much less senseless killing.

A New Year is an appropriate time to dream for the future, but instead of imagining there’s no religion, let’s reimagine what it would be like for a revival of Biblical Christianity in America.

Instead of imagining there’s no Heaven, let’s dream of the Spirit of Heaven coming to earth.

Revolution for a New Year

With the New Year celebration barely behind us, I wonder how many of those New Year’s resolutions people have made are already broken? What we really need is not more resolutions, but a revolution, overthrowing the government of our heart, where King Jesus reins instead of the devil or self.

John Wesley challenges: “Today, do and accept His will. Today, give up yourself – your body, soul, and spirit – to God through Jesus. Desire nothing but that God may be glorified in all that you are, all you do, and all that you suffer. Seek nothing but to know God and His Son Jesus through the eternal Holy Spirit. Pursue nothing other than to love Him, to serve Him, and to enjoy Him in this hour and all eternity.

This is a challenge to personal holy living. This would change us and would impact our families, churches, and communities.

Some words from John Wesley to begin a new year:

“If doing a good act in public will excite others to do more good, then ‘Let your light shine to all.’ Miss no opportunity to do good.”

“You have one business on earth – to save souls.”

“My one aim in life is to secure personal holiness, for without being holy myself I cannot promote real holiness in others.”

“If we cannot think alike, at least we may love alike; and can anything but love beget love?”
