What a year this has been! We remain thankful for the fresh calling God has given us and that He chose us for this work at such a time as this.
Below you’ll read just some of what your support has empowered in this past year of ministry. We also ask for your prayers and support to prepare for another year of service. Will you stand with us?
From the time we turned the calendar over to January 1st, we knew 2024 was going to be a busy and consequential year. The country was staring down the barrel of what both parties knew was going to be one of the most meaningful elections of American history thus far. American Decency sought to do our small part in informing, warning, encouraging, praying, and acting to bring clarity to the November 5 political showdown.
In February, American Decency’s Bill Johnson and his wife Jan attended the “Voter Summit” conference which included the convincing presentations of such people as Pat Colbeck, Dr. David Clement, Joe Oltmann, Mark Finchem and Dr. Douglas Frank. Bill stated, “Although I thought I had a lot of awareness regarding the deep fraud in our voting system, I was clueless to the depths, the complexity and the specifics of corruption. I had already learned a great deal from Pat Colbeck, who was one of the featured speakers. I had no doubt that this summit would be a “must see” as we started the new year. I was not disappointed and it set the stage in stirring my heart to get more understanding and to seek God’s leading as to what we could do at American Decency.”
So during this election year, we’ve been able to put our hand to election integrity by connecting people, disseminating truth, offering a time for township/county clerks and elected officials to watch the documentary Let My People Go on election integrity, and even coming alongside a specific township clerk in discussion and prayer in attempting to understand the challenges clerks face.
Bill Johnson also met with our county clerk, as well as the county commissioners chair regarding election fraud, speaking with them about the upcoming election, sharing concerns regarding the election of 2020, and seeking to sensitize them and encourage them to be watchful.
In addition to trying to inform and encourage local officials regarding election integrity, ADA employees also dedicated their time to receiving training and were engaged in activities to help clean up Michigan’s voter rolls themselves. Bill also made 120 calls to low propensity conservative voters in Wayne and Macomb counties (District 13 and 25), encouraging them to vote in a special election in April which determined control of the Michigan Legislature. Though not associated with American Decency Association, Bill Johnson and Lisa Van Houten ran for the elected position of Precinct Delegate in their respective districts, with the hope of helping to influence the direction of the county GOP. By God’s grace, both were elected in the August primary.
Bill has also been involved with Michigan Fair Elections (MFE), often attending their weekly meetings throughout the year, and was asked to present at one of their meetings. Bill also was asked to be MFE’s lead for Newaygo County and, in May, Bill spoke before the Newaygo County Republican Party Executive Committee as requested by MFE. Throughout the year, the vitality and the quality of MFE was impressive and they have proven to be one of the reasons why Michigan voting results in our recent November elections were greatly improved.
However, election integrity was only one of our many ministry engagements in 2024. Throughout the year we have had numerous opportunities for involvement, such as Bill speaking to a men’s group, networking with other conservative leaders, and doing interviews – to name just a few.
We’re so thankful for our building, which God through His people, provided for our headquarters back in 2007. It gives us the space needed to host a variety of speakers and events throughout the year. You’ll also see that our activism took us out of the building and to the streets on numerous occasions throughout the year.
Our first activism event of the year was to co-host, with Newaygo County Right to Life, the local annual March for Life on January 20. Marchers used our building for a time of prayer and as a staging area before heading out to march through the heart of our community, with signs pointing to the sanctity of life and to register our disgust with our state and nation’s horrific record of child sacrifice that we call abortion.
On February 22nd, we invited speaker Jay Jusino, who has spent his life researching what we’ve come to know as “The Great Reset,” to share his expertise. Jay gave an eye-opening presentation to a large audience, in which he shared videos of self-styled global “elites” who’ve taken it upon themselves to set a course for the future of humanity – people like Bill Gates, Klaus Schwab, and the world leaders who proudly and publicly accept their directives. Jay exposed the frightening reality that there are many like-minded puppet masters intent upon taking America down from within and without.
As mentioned earlier, having become increasingly aware of the complexity and the huge burden that township clerks face particularly in election years, in March we sent letters to all township clerks (23 in total) in Newaygo County expressing our appreciation for their important work and inviting them to attend a private showing of the informational documentary, Let My People Go – a powerful film that had been created to give clerks and the public alike awareness of how the election process had been corrupted in 2020. We were disappointed that no clerks attended, but are also aware of the pressure put upon them by our leftist Michigan Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson. We also hosted a public showing of Let My People Go which was very well received by our audience.
Also in March, we hosted our longtime friend Kamal Saleem, former terrorist turned Christian, who returned to our stage to speak on his view of what he sees happening in America and the world today. Kamal is always a crowd favorite!
We closed out the month of March, not with an indoor event, but with a prayer vigil at Fremont’s Walgreens regarding their sale of abortion pills. We carried out our intentions despite the foreboding clouds and scattered showers leading up to our scheduled time to meet on the sidewalk. It wasn’t long, however, before torrential showers, strong winds, thunder, and hail, forced us back to our vehicles. The rain smeared the marker on our signs and then the winds broke them in half and hurled some into the street as we crossed. It certainly felt like spiritual warfare.
On May 2, ADA once again hosted a local National Day of Prayer event, uniting with Christians all around the country to lift our nation up in prayer. This would be the first of many prayer events we hosted, as we felt a unique impetus to bring our nation before the Lord.
In June, we joined with our friends, Newaygo County Grassroots, at a prayer and praise event in a neighboring community. Bill was a featured presenter, speaking on the growing normalization of homosexuality within many churches. State Representative Joseph Fox also spoke at the event. As an LGBT PRIDE event occurred in that town’s city park, we stood along a main highway pointing passersby to the hope found in Jesus and offering to pray with them.
In July, American Decency hosted an Election Integrity Forum where we again had the privilege of hearing from Rep. Joseph Fox, as he gave an update on Michigan Democrats’ efforts to stop voter rolls from being purged of voters who had died or moved out of state. Fox was joined by former State Rep. and Michigan gubernatorial candidate Pat Colbeck, now Chief of Operations for Mike Lindell’s Election Task Force, who shared his experiences with Michigan election corruption as a poll watcher in Detroit in 2020 and what he’s learned since.
In early October, Bill, Jan, and Lisa were invited to Tupelo, MS to attend the premier showing of Culture Warrior, an American Family Association film on the life and ministry of Donald Wildmon. Bill had been interviewed for and was featured in the documentary, relaying the immense influence Don Wildmon had on him personally, as well as our culture. (For those who aren’t aware, American Decency Association has a long and close relationship with AFA, with Bill having served as the first-named AFA state director, leading AFA of Michigan for many years before forming the ministry of American Decency Association.)
Because our earlier event with Jay Jusino only scratched the surface of the grave concern of The Great Reset, in October we brought Jay back to present Part Two of his seminar. Jay’s deep dive into world leaders’ well-publicized, if often ignored, plans for global governance was again eye opening and well appreciated by the audience which filled our auditorium.
As we approached election day, our desire to stand with other believers in earnest prayer increased and we sought to create opportunities to bring our nation’s future before the Lord.
On October 24, we invited area pastors Gene Walter and Jeff Swanson, state Rep. Joseph Fox, as well as our friend Stephen Black of Coram Deo Ministries (virtually) and staff member Steven Huston to lead a prayer meeting. In addition to focusing on prayer, each of these men of God spoke on different themes, but all pointing to the great need for repentance in our embattled America.
Two days later, on October 26, we invited those in the area to participate in a prayer vigil in front of our building, along Main St/M-82. This was such a blessing, that we again gathered in front of our building for another prayer vigil on Election Day, November 5, knowing that this election would have such serious implications for our future.
Although we were disappointed in the turnout for all three of these prayer events, we cannot gauge their worth. The benefit to the community, the country, or even those who came to pray is unknown, for “great issues turn on small hinges.” What we can gauge is our obedience to the Lord and some of the amazing stories that came out of those gatherings, all of which show God’s Hand of Providence. Praise His name!
As one attendee wrote to us afterwards: “Thank you for doing the Oct. 24 Prayer Gathering regarding the election. Speakers did a great job addressing needs of our country. Don’t be discouraged by the attendance. I realize [it] should have been overflowing with citizens. People are too busy today and apathetic. Priorities are not where they should be …”
Of course, while bringing in these speakers and organizing these events, we’re engaged in writing articles for our daily email alerts and our monthly newsletter, Frontline, to keep our readers informed on the concerning issues of our day – giving action steps, where applicable, to provide readers with opportunities to make their voices heard. We tackle important issues such as urging the US to leave the World Health Organization; the threat of illegal immigration to our safety and sovereignty and the Biden administration’s complicity in the sex trafficking of thousands of children brought across the border; the threat of China on various fronts; we spoke out against Pride month and the horrific practice of pushing transgenderism on minors, leading to irreversible harm; warned about the harm caused by cell phones and social media upon our youth (and adults); and called out the national Republican Party for the watering down of their pro-life platform – to name just a few of the many subjects we dove into this past year.
We also create a monthly church bulletin insert, sent to churches upon request, to hopefully edify their congregation. In addition, we also produce a radio commentary, Decency Minute, which airs three times a week on the West Michigan station of American Family Radio (AFR). In all we do, we strive to point to the Truth of Scripture and the Hope found in our Lord Jesus.
American Decency is staffed with dedicated Christians who are engaged in growing the Kingdom of God. Outside of our careers at ADA, we are youth group leaders, evangelists, non-profit board members, Sunday School teachers, and engaged in hospitality ministry.
We thank you, our readers, so much for your generous support throughout the years and we hope this brief summary and review of the work and ministry we’ve been able to do this year, because of your support, is an encouragement to you – for you certainly are an encouragement to us!
As God leads, will you help keep us in the battle for Truth?
May God bless you in the year ahead!
Bill, Lisa, Kimberly, Chris, and Steve
