I need to tell you about our time for our morning “prayer vigil” last Saturday afternoon (October 26) on Main Street in front of the American Decency Association offices!
We gathered with a small, but intimate, few and prayed for God to show His face, and we weren’t disappointed.
Our solid core showed up as well as some new faces whom we hadn’t meet before- but who had a heart for Christ!
The leaves were at their brightest colors and the sun was full and the colors were radiant and God provided great clouds and atmosphere.
My grandchildren, Danny and Mia, had made up our prayer signs that helped us tell the traffic passing by:
“Pray for God’s Grace and Mercy”
“Pray for Our Nation”
“Our Hope is in the Lord”
Cars and trucks came by the hundreds in those short two hours; giving us the thumbs up, waving and honking!
On the sidewalk and lawn, some of us prayed orally to our God, you could hear their words if you listened carefully. Others prayed two by two. I heard hymns as “Holy, Holy, Holy – Lord God almighty…”
We had coffee brewed and available along with five dozen donuts available, before, during and after as a few sat around and visited, making new friends.
One woman shared her personal story – noteworthy and so relevant. When she was 18, she had been living down in Venice, Florida with her grandmother and was hired as a nanny. After working there for several weeks, the “grandfather” in the home revealed that she was actually being shopped around and had been sold by a sex trafficker.
She was on the verge of being taken to her “buyer” when she was told, by God’s grace, that she needed to get out of Florida immediately because “they” knew where she lived, with her grandmother and they would get her! She was soon after transported out of Florida and back to her home in Michigan.
What an amazing story and reminder of how there are dark undercurrents in our society which need our prayer as well.
We had one group of three people who we hadn’t known before which showed up and huddled together on the lawn and prayed and prayed in their little group. They were praying so intently and knowledgeably about things of God and things of earth. They asked me very serious and good questions about our ministry, which I was happy to answer.
One couple that lives in town had often seen our sign in front of our building and wondered who we are and what we do. The three new friends saw our front-page ad and wanted to come and pray too, and they were also eager to learn more about our work. Another neat story from that day – that couple saw the ad when the man was wrinkling up the paper as bedding for his chickens. We all got a laugh and thanked God for how He steps in.
Our hearts were both lifted up to Him and we, His people, made new acquaintances and friendships.
As we finished up, I think most of us noted that time flew by! A word came from within our group: “We should do this on election day afternoon!”
Stand by.
May at least a core of our friends and fellow Christians and church family join us, as well as some new acquaintances who are burdened over the sin upon our land – and our need for God’s grace and mercy!
Despite my light-heartedness here, the hearts of those who gathered were joyful but deeply burdened for America and our fears for what lies ahead without the intervention of our Heavenly Father.
To God be the Glory!
