After pushback from House GOP members, including the Speaker, made it clear that the Senate’s immigration bill was dead on arrival on the House floor, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was forced to admit defeat on the bipartisan $118 billion package negotiated by Oklahoma Senator James Lankford. Despite being spoken of as a “border bill,” over half of those billions went to Ukraine, as well as fourteen to Israel, and ten to Gazan civilians. There was just $20 billion left in the bill to deal with immigration issues – and about $500 million of that amounted to a bribe for the Mexican government.
Shortly after news of McConnell’s reversal came out, Biden made this announcement: “Every day between now and November, the American people are going to know that the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends.”
Biden’s statement gives strong “if it weren’t for those meddling kids” vibes, and his squinting and mumbling attempt to read it off the teleprompter doesn’t help. The fact that just a week ago he was celebrating a successful suit to the Supreme Court to allow his agents to remove the razor wire Texas has erected really gets in the way of his messaging. By the way, Texas’ efforts in Eagle Pass, Governor Abbott announced, have resulted in stemming the flow of thousands crossing per day, to just three per day. And it’s the Biden administration, not Donald Trump and his MAGA friends, who are trying to put an end to those efforts.
Doubtless the migrants who’ve walked thousands of miles to get here aren’t just turning around to go home, however, they’re finding some place easier to get across, someplace where Biden’s hamstrung border patrol are still in charge.
Back in January, after a similar attempt from Biden to saddle Republicans with the outcome of his immigration policies, Speaker Mike Johnson released a timeline documenting the 64 actions taken by the Biden administration to shuttle illegal immigrants into the United States, saying “Since his first day in office, President Biden and his administration have worked to systematically undermine America’s border security. On more than 60 occasions, he has manipulated the federal bureaucracy to open our borders to illegal immigrants, human trafficking, fentanyl, and potential terrorists. The result is a humanitarian and national security catastrophe. The President must use his executive authority to repair what he has broken. I am calling on him to do so.“
The most recent point comes from January 3 of this year: “Jan. 3, 2024, Biden administration sues Texas to stop them from sending illegal foreign migrants out of the United States.”
Yet, he blames the unsecured border on Trump.
Fox News’ White House Correspondent Peter Doocy asked Press Secretary Karinne Jean-Pierre how Republicans could be blamed for the border crisis when Democrats controlled both houses of Congress for the first two years of Bidens presidency, her explanation was that “Republicans got in the way.”
No, it is obvious to anyone paying attention that Democrats want the country to be flooded with migrants. In some cases, they don’t even mind having them shuttled into their districts, as one NY congresswoman explained and likely later regretted. In 2021, Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y., stated that her district “can absorb a significant number of these migrants,” adding, “I need more people in my district just for redistricting purposes.”
As Laura Ries and RJ Hauman explained in an editorial for Fox News, “Congressional and Electoral College apportionment is based on the number of residents, as determined by the Census. Currently, Census includes illegal aliens and other noncitizens as residents.
Consequently, a state can gain extra congressional districts and representation in Congress thanks to the presence of a large population that isn’t legally allowed to vote. Since the number of congressional seats is limited to 435, this additional representation comes at the expense of other states.”
So, migrants don’t even have to be allowed to vote to sway elections. Does anyone doubt why the door is flung wide open for them?
