3 in 3 for 9-13-24

By: Steve Huston

Most of our 3 in 3 articles address things that might cause us to fear, but fear not! God IS in control and nothing comes to His children except it goes through Him first. In other words, everything is Father-filtered. That’s not the same thing as saying that God will never allow “bad” things to come our way. God has His purposes and brings us through each trial, temptation, and tribulation. It’s His strength and fellowship, as we walk with Christ with thanksgiving and praise, that brings us through to the other side.

David wrote, “…preserve my life from fear of the enemy.” John Wesley advised, “It is only the fear of God that can deliver us from the fear of man.” Jesus, reminding us that this world is not our home, comforts His followers with these words: “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:1-3).

Yet, while we live in this sin-corrupted world surrounded by evil, we will have troubles. What great comfort that we have “a friend that sticketh closer than a brother;” His name is Jesus. Take comfort by these words written by S.D. Gordon: “Jesus never sends a man ahead alone. He blazes a clear way through every thicket and woods, and then softly calls, ‘Follow me. Let’s go on together, you and I.’ He has been everywhere we are called to go. His feet have trodden down smooth a path through every experience that comes to us. He knows each road and knows it well: the valley road of disappointment with its dark shadows; the steep path of temptation down through the rocky ravines and slippery gullies; the narrow path of pain, with the brambly thorn bushes so close on each side, with their slash and sting; the dizzy road along the heights of victory; the beaten road of commonplace daily routine. Everyday paths He has trodden and glorified, and will walk anew with each of us. The only safe way to travel is with Him alongside and in control.

Even if God should allow us to sit down by “the rivers of Babylon” where we weep and remember the glory days of old – the days of freely worshiping God and so many other liberties – our omnipotent and sovereign God is “our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1). Jesus is our high priest who “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” So, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:15-16). When fear would threaten to overtake us, let us pray with the apostles, “And now Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word” (Acts 4:29). And with Paul: “that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

Consider the Cost of Free

Under Governor Whitmer, every Michigan 4-year-old will soon have access to free preschool, but there’s a catch: the preschool center cannot be Christian.

As a result, Christian daycare/preschool centers are losing students. Worse than that, without a successful preschool program, many will struggle to keep their doors open.

In other words, by incentivizing families to leave Christian preschool centers, the state is threatening the very existence of childcare centers which view their mission as a ministry.

This is right in line with the purpose of state-funded education from its very inception.

Horace Mann, who is known as the “Father of American Education,” put it this way in the mid-1800s, “What the church has been for medieval man, the public school must become for democratic and rational man. God would be replaced by the concept of the public good.

Michigan parents need to consider what the true cost of all this “free” education is.

Becoming Third World

Citizens in Springfield, Ohio are quickly learning that when we import the third world, we increasingly become like the third world. Springfield, with a population of only 60,000, has been reeling from the effects of 20,000 Haitians dropped upon their city.

The impact is far worse than eyewitness reports of geese killed in a park to either eat or use in the common Haitian voodoo ritual of animal sacrifice. The massive influx is crippling Springfield’s social services, where illegals are reportedly given preference over citizens, while schools are placing sixteen-year-old Haitians in class with 10-year-olds. The mass chaos that often typifies driving in third world countries is now common in Springfield, as unlicensed Haitians have caused multiple deaths and injuries.

Yet this is the plan of the Left – to dissolve our shared culture and transform our nation. And they are well on their way to succeeding.

Wait on the Lord

Justice delayed is NOT justice denied; we’ve often comforted ourselves with this truth, watching evil seemingly go unchecked and unnoticed. But God sees! He is judging.

God also calls us to wait on Him not only in matters of judgment, but for answered prayer and expectation of blessing.

Isaiah writes: “Therefore will the LORD wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment…”

F.B. Meyer reminds us: “God’s delays are not denials; they are neither neglectful nor unkind. He is waiting with watchful eye and intent for the precise moment to strike, when He can give a blessing which will be without alloy and will flood all after life with blessings so royal, so plenteous, do divine, that eternity will be too short to utter all our praise.
