Violence is rampant in the “land of the free and the home of the brave,” as it is around the world as well. It’s not always the overt and obvious type of Black Lives Matter (BLM) violence we saw a few years ago, sometimes it’s the violence we’ve just grown, or are growing, accustomed to – abortion, Title IX actions, forced or coerced vaccines, and other attacks on our freedoms, rights, and common sense. These just to name a few.
We long for sanity and reality to rule once more, instead of being shoved into the recesses of our minds or found in geographic bubbles within communities, fearing that even those will soon be popped. For those of us who were born more than a few decades ago, this is a foreign land, a nightmare, it “feels” more like the “land of the feckless and the home of the brainless.”
We may wonder, “Where is God? What is He doing?” And the prophet Isaiah is quick to remind us that “the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear” (59:1). He warns us that it’s not God who is the problem, it’s us: “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear” (59:2).
We may wonder where all this violence came from, but Isaiah 59 makes it clear that it’s just the natural results of walking away from the Lord and transgressing against Him. In this chapter, we read of violence and lawlessness, but we are also informed as to what has brought about this separation from peace and truth:
“We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us. For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them; In transgressing and lying against the Lord, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment” (11-15). (emphasis added)
This week’s Decency Minutes, narrated by Bill Johnson, exhibits the manifestations of violence, the irrationality of thought that transgression leads to, and the desperate need America has for repentance and transformation by God’s hand. Nothing short of an inward work of grace will suffice.
Bill Maher is “Just OK” With Murder
Bill Maher recently admitted that when pro-life absolutists call abortion murder, they’re right, but he’s “just okay with that.”
That should send chills up and down our spines. To think that each person is “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” and to know life is sacred yet hear someone from the Left say it’s murder but it’s acceptable because they’re “just okay with that” should cause us to pause reflectively.
Some politicians and people who are in the “pro-life” camp make exceptions for abortion. Some are okay with aborting a baby from rape, or who may be unhealthy, or they give their consent before a certain week of gestation is reached.
To the degree that one doesn’t value life as sacred from conception to natural death, aren’t they also “just okay with that”?
America’s Thriving Culture of Life… for Dogs
Last week Governor Kristi Noem seemed to do the impossible – unite both liberals and conservatives. As the story broke that Noem once killed her 14-month-old dog because it had attacked chickens and been aggressive toward people, she garnered the outrage of millions of American dog lovers.
As one who enjoys the companionship of my German Shepherd, Ridley, I recognize that there could have been other options for this seemingly poorly trained dog. However, while we’re to be good stewards, God gives mankind dominion over animals.
Yet, there was more national outrage over the killing of a dog, than the thousands of babies killed by abortion every day. A culture which values dogs more than people, that doesn’t blink an eye as babies are torn apart in their mothers’ womb, is a culture that not only has lost its moral compass, but is deserving of God’s judgment.
Whose Side Do You Want to Be On?
As the left destroys their own institutions around the country in the name of Palestine, President Biden remains silent.
Why?
Because these protestors are his base. The students chanting antisemitic slogans that would make an SS officer blush are the students whose votes Biden plans to buy in the next election with his promises for student loan forgiveness! He can’t afford to tick them off by condemning their temper tantrums!
This should cause Americans to pause and think: whose side do I want to be on? At UNC Chapel Hill last week, protestors sought to tear down an American flag on campus and replace it with a Palestinian flag, until a group of frat brothers put themselves in the way, holding the flag off the ground and singing the national anthem, while enduring water bottles and rocks being angrily thrown at them.
Whose side would we rather be on?
We published an article earlier this week that takes an in depth look at this issue which moves the reader to self-examination and reflection. It can be read here.
What is the answer to this violence, lawlessness, and injustice? Or as the psalmist asked: “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Dear Reader, take heart; for the Lord Himself has given us the answer. HE IS OUR HOPE! (Isa. 59:16-17)
God exhorts us to rest in Him; He will be the Judge, Jury, and Executioner. He will right the wrong and take care of those who are His:
“According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence. So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the Lord. As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever” (Isa. 59:18-21). (emphasis added)
Let’s praise God for His Word, His promise, His Strength, and His HOPE! Hallelujah!
