3 in 3 for 11-8-24

With the results of the election behind us, some are likely breathing a sigh of relief. As our Decency Minutes, narrated by Bill Johnson, remind us, we must also continue to be breathing prayers to our most holy God. Of course, that would include prayers of gratitude, praise, and thanksgiving for the merciful reprieve that the Lord has bestowed upon us. Yet, it also includes prayers for those who are still in authority as well as those who will be soon stepping into those offices as declared by the Hand of God and, also, by the will of the people. In “praying for all men everywhere,” let us remember those from the Left who are truly distraught, some posting themselves weeping, swearing, and truly feeling a loss of hope. Let us ask of God that He would send someone into their lives to speak truth and that the Holy Spirit would prepare their hearts to receive the hope that only Jesus gives. Continue to pray for our nation as a whole, that God’s grace and mercy would extend to giving us repentance, revival, and renewal; we are still a nation in great need and it would seem that the hearts of many of those who were elected (and those who remain in office) are far from God. Finally, I urge each of us to pray for ourselves: that God will open our own eyes to those things which need to be changed or tweaked in our own lives, that we would more diligently seek God’s face, and that we would see and step into opportunities to share the gospel with others, that we would stand boldly for righteousness – yet with compassion.

May the words of Micah 6: 8 and 2 Timothy 1:7 ring in our ears as we step forward into the days ahead:

Might we require of our leaders what God calls all men to: “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” (Micah 6:8)

And as we prayerfully walk in such a requirement of God, also boldly reminding our leaders of these things, might we humbly remember that we do so “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Tm. 1:7)

Let us hold one another up in prayer as we, by faith, step into such a holy and daunting task.

We Need a Wave of Repentance

What an amazing reprieve God gave us from growing tyranny with this week’s election! However, what will we do with this act of God’s grace? In the book of Judges, a pattern is repeated – God’s people did what was evil; they received the judgment they deserved; they called out to God for relief from their misery; the Lord, in His abounding love and mercy, sent an earthly deliverer; only to have the people once again turn away from God after they received that reprieve.

I’m very thankful for the election of Donald Trump. However, what our nation needs far more than a Red Wave, is a wave of true repentance and revival. I pray our nation will seek not just God’s blessing, but His forgiveness.

As the Lord call us in the book of Joel, “Yet, even now, return to me with all your heart…”

Christian Conservatives Have Reason to Be Encouraged

As we all consider the lessons and implications of the 2024 presidential election, there are many perspectives which deserve our attention.

But there is a clear reason for encouragement for Christian conservatives. After the Trump victory, the supporters assembled at Mar-a-Lago joined together to sing the beautiful hymn, “How Great Thou Art!”

Charlie Kirk, the president of Turning Point which was instrumental in winning the “Blue Wall” swing states, passionately told the audience of his election coverage stream to pray and thank God, because we do not deserve this act of mercy.

Trump himself, acknowledged that it seemed the hand of God had spared his life in his victory speech.

All in all, the landscape for Christians looks more welcoming under the next administration than it has for several years. As Crosspolitic said on X, “The Master just gave us 5 talents. We should have 5 more to give Him in 4 years.”

Seek God Diligently

Through the prophet Jeremiah, God promises that “ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

How often do we search for earthly things with much more vigor than we seek for the Lord and His will?  We might search diligently for the origins of a leak in our house or we may leave no throw pillow unturned hoping to find our keys. Yet, searching for a better understanding of God and seeking out His will is certainly of greater consequence.

Finding leak origins and keys are important, yet of much greater value is to seek the Lord while He may be found.

Diligently and prayerfully read the Bible; search for the Lord’s Hand even in the mundane. Seek to see His truth come to fruition around you, both for good and for bad.  His Word is truth and NEVER fails.

Let me share some important thoughts with you from The Reformation Heritage KJV Bible, quoting from the added page Experiential Knowledge, found at the beginning of John 14.

“The Reformers and Puritans loved to preach on John 17:3, ‘And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.’ They understood that the word ‘know,’ as used in this context, meant an intimate kind of knowledge that involved a deeply personal and a binding relationship with God in Christ Jesus. They were fond of calling this an experimental knowledge. Today we more commonly speak of it as experiential knowledge.”

“John Calvin used experiential and experimental interchangeably, since both words indicate the need for measuring experienced knowledge against the touchstone of Scripture. Experiential knowledge addresses the vital matter of how a Christian experiences the truth of biblical doctrine in his life.”

Simply put, Christians experience the application of the Bible in their lives. It’s a continual, growing experience to be sure, but the true believer applies, although imperfectly, the Word of God to their lives, experiences the truth revealed, and gains a better understanding and further encouragement to continue in the experience of Christ.

Regardless of what comes our way in the days ahead, let us trust in God’s Word, living it out daily, experiencing the power of the Spirit in our lives, thanks to the shed blood of Jesus which atones for our sins and saves us.
