Decency Minutes are an opportunity for us at American Decency to share bite-sized chunks of troubling news, good news, inspirational nuggets, and information regarding upcoming events. Even though these are “bite-sized,” sometimes they can be hard to swallow. I’d like to take a moment to remind us that in those “hard to swallow moments” of life, we are admonished to give thanks, praise God for His goodness, trust Him, and remember that if we knew what God knows, we’d ask for what He gives. So, even though Thanksgiving was yesterday, let us continue giving thanks, regardless of what comes our way.
Here’s a short list of things we can thank and praise God for; take a moment to meditate on them:
Thank you, Lord… for your grace, for your mercy, for your forgiveness, for your faithfulness, for your leadership, for your guidance, for your peace, for your comfort and joy, for your unfailing love, for being my Saviour, and for the immense blessing of being able to call you Father, my God, and all that these things entail.
As Bill Johnson narrates these Decency Minutes, take time to give thanks that God is sovereign, pray for His will to be done, and praise His holy name.
Jocelyn Benson – Serial Lawbreaker
Former state Senator Patrick Colbeck has a hunger for the truth and has been investigating anomalies and working toward election integrity since the 2020 election. Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s antics haven’t escaped his notice in this regard. In October, Mr. Colbeck filed a formal Request for Investigation of her with the Attorney Grievance Commission. This included allegations of bribery, and it cited seven times that Michigan courts have had to force Benson to comply with election laws.
“In the exercise of her duties as the Michigan Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson has routinely exhibited behavior that violates the standards of conduct associated with the retention of her law license. In order to uphold the integrity of the legal profession and Michigan’s justice system, the Attorney Grievance Commission has been asked to revoke the Michigan Bar License for Jocelyn Benson.”
May God grant us justice in this matter.
It’s been two months since a hurricane hit North Carolina, destroying 100,000 homes. As winter descends, countless victims are still living in tents, while FEMA workers live in warm trailers.
However, hundreds of Amish carpenters have gone to North Carolina to build temporary tiny homes through the group, Cabins for Christ. Those who live near the Amish, can attest to their skilled carpentry. The Amish built more than 100 of these temporary shelters, until government bureaucrats kicked the hurricane victims out of the Amish-built homes, claiming they didn’t pass code.
The Trump administration can’t come soon enough to clean house at FEMA which denied aid to those with Trump yard signs, gave a billion dollars to house illegals in hotels, but leaves Americans who lost everything out in the cold.
Pray for those who not only lost their homes, but have been abandoned by their own government.
If I’d Told Myself We’d Be Here, I Wouldn’t Have Believed It
As we draw near to the end of another year, it’s always good to look in the rear-view mirror for a little perspective. The number of times that I have said in the past few months and years, “if I’d told myself 5 years ago we’d be here today, I wouldn’t have believed it,” just goes to show how unpredictable life can be.
Sometimes those can be moments of blessing, and sometimes it can be times of hardship.
One thing is for certain: looking back over the past years, with the elections, and Covid, and censorship, and the Supreme Court decisions, and the list goes on, besides what happens in each of our personal lives, when we look back it is unavoidable to recognize that God is at work.
If you abide in Him and He abides in you, those who walk with the Lord know this to be true: God is at work in His children.
Puritan Thomas Manton preached a sermon entitled The Christian’s Special Duty of Giving Thanks; I would encourage you to read it. Herein he describes that the “special duty wherein the people of God should be much exercised is thanksgiving.” He continues by describing why we should be involved in such a duty, shows that it’s a profitable duty, and closes his message with a portion that reminds us, “It is a most delightful work to remember the many thousand mercies God hath bestowed on the church, ourselves, and friends.”
Two quotes by Puritan Jeremiah Burroughs:
“Christian contentment is that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit, which freely submits to and delights in God’s wise and fatherly disposal in every condition.”
“A noble heart is a thankful heart that loves to acknowledge whenever it has received any mercy.”
John Wesley: “The best helps to growth in grace are the ill usage, the affronts, and the losses which befall us. We should receive them with all thankfulness, as preferable to all others, were it only on this account, that our will has no part therein.”
