Three in Three for 12-1-23

By: Steve Huston

Jesus proclaimed in Matthew 24:35: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Good times, good health, gifts, friends and family, these will all pass away. While not a very cheerful reflection for the start of such a joyous holiday season, it does point us to other similar, yet grateful, thoughts. The troubles that we face and the afflictions we endure, here on earth, they will all pass away. The squabbles, discord, and hate that exists will one day be behind us. The temporal pain or loss we feel, it will all pass away. The wars and rumors of war, the famine, disease, and pestilence, these too shall, one day, be no more. When we put things in this perspective, it makes a lot more sense to be working from an eternal motive and for an eternal goal. Paul exhorted the Colossians to “set your affection on things above, not on the things on the earth.

As you listen to these Decency Minutes narrated by Bill Johnson (simply click on the titles) or as you reflect on the news of the day, keep in mind the transitoriness of our situations and how they can change at a moment’s notice. Choose your responses from an eternal view instead of the temporal one that is so often “at our fingertips.” Rejoice with Paul that “the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” Regardless what this weekend brings, keep “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:11-13)

Reach out to others, in love, sharing the love of Christ for the glory of God.

Who is Governing America?

Fox News reports that the UN’s Food & Agriculture Organization will publish its so-called “global food systems’ road map” during an upcoming climate summit in Dubai which will recommend that nations that “over-consume meat” limit their consumption as part of an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The US is one those nations, of course, and so this international body is using this supposed problem to concern itself with what American citizens are putting in their mouths.

More than that, they’re concerning themselves with how American farmers are running their businesses. Fox’s report continues the FAO is expected to highlight how farmers should tackle their emissions produced from food waste and use of fertilizer.”

All of this concern from the UN is enough to make Americans wonder, is our government in Washington, DC or in New York at the United Nations Headquarters?

Is America still governed by the people and for the people?

Foster Parents or a Foster Government

A new policy from the Biden administration will lay the groundwork to eventually take children away from parents who don’t support transgender ideology.  The proposed policy regarding foster care, would deem any foster parent who rejects LGBT ideology as an unfit foster parent. In essence, it would prevent any Christian from fostering children.

If the Left has its way, this won’t stop with foster parents.  Once the precedent has been set, it will eventually be applied to biological parents – declaring them unfit for refusing to affirm gender delusion in their children.

Leftists are following the Communist/Marxist playbook that seeks to separate children from Christian upbringing.

Yet, Psalm 78 commands parents to teach their children the ways of the Lord, so that the next generation will tell their children and set their hope in God.

Don’t let the government coerce you into silence.

Wearing out or Rusting out?

September 1770, George Whitefield preached his last sermon to a great multitude in the fields. Just prior, Mr. Clarkson noticed his uneasiness and said, “Sir, you are more fit to go to bed than preach.”  To which Mr. Whitefield answered, “True.” He then clasped his hands together, looked up, and prayed, “Lord Jesus, I am WEARY IN Thy work, but not OF Thy work. If I have not yet finished my course, let me go and speak for Thee once more in the fields, and come home and die.” During Whitefield’s last night upon earth, his servant declared, “I wish you would not preach so often.” To which he replied, “I had rather WEAR OUT than RUST OUT.

Will you choose to wear out for the Lord or to rust out for yourself? If we grow weary, let us do so in service to our Lord, Jesus Christ.

In thinking of the above Decency Minutes and the transitoriness of the times, I leave you with two quotes to think upon this weekend:

If you please yourselves in your own conceits and vain imaginations that are contrary to the wisdom of Christ, believing that it is an easy thing to go to heaven and that you hope to be saved in the end, although you are carried with the stream of the world, the tide of your lusts, the wind of Satan’s suggestions and applause of the multitude, assure yourselves that you are rebels against Christ and are on the path to eternal destruction.” ~ John Maynard

Why should those who defile their souls, prefer temporal happiness over eternal felicity, and blindly expose themselves to the wrath of a God who punishes sin, be considered wise?” ~ Richard Allestree
