Maybelline – Maybe Leaner

By: Kimberly Cargill

Arguably the best recognized slogan for Maybelline comes from their 1991 pitch, “Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s Maybelline.” In the case of their most recent advertising, we’re compelled to say, “No maybes about it, he was not born with it; it’s all Maybelline!” With conservatives recently speaking out and taking a stand against companies going “woke,” using their products to push an agenda that demeans women, undermines morality, and works to reverse the roles of sanity and insanity, their new tagline – referring to their bottom line – might be “Maybelline or Maybe leaner.”

In a recent Maybelline Instagram ad, Ryan Vita – a mustached, bearded, bald man with long fingernails – is wearing full face makeup, dons a beaded barrette in his beard, and applies bright pink shades of Maybelline’s “Super Stay” liquid lipstick. As a finishing touch he blows a kiss to the viewer and sings the praises of the world’s largest cosmetic brand.

It didn’t take long for the ad to receive negative comments. Here are just a few:

Maybe it’s mental illness, maybe it’s Maybelline.

Why are you using MEN TO ADVERTISE THIS? I can’t picture myself wearing any of your lipsticks…

Adding Maybelline to the growing list of companies I won’t buy from anymore.

Really don’t want to be seeing MEN doing makeup tutorials!!! Nonsense.

Maybelline, another ‘Go Woke & Go Broke’ company to add to the ‘Not to sponsor list’! Women, they are taking your place and you are letting them do it!

Perhaps this one sums it up best – “This is unacceptable and disturbing.

This, however, isn’t Maybelline’s first foray into transgender advertising. Can you guess who else they used in an attempt to widen their market and to show just how well they fit with the “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” crowd?

Would it help if I asked, “What do blush and beer have in common?”

If your mind went to Bud Light’s Dylan Mulvaney, a man who identifies as a woman, you are correct! The Epoch Times reports, “Mr. Mulvaney was also featured in a Maybelline ad applying the company’s products in a TikTok video posted in March and later shared by Maybelline on its Instagram account, a move that also triggered calls for a boycott.

They also reported that sales volumes of Bud Light plunged by 23.6 percent in the week ending on July 8 while other brands’ sales increased by as much as 30.2 percent. Stating, “The latest data show a deepening sales slump that was triggered when the brand rolled out a personalized beer can featuring the face of Mr. Mulvaney.”

While we are grateful that conservatives are waking up and taking a stand against the “woke” crowd’s preaching in its various forms, my concern is for the “converts” of such preaching. Those souls within and without the church who are buying the deception that there is no absolute truth; gender can be self-determined, fluid, or opposite of that which God created them to be; self-realization and expression is the only way to happiness; and any number of other deceptions affiliated with the counter-culture revolution (LGBT+, communism, etc.) – will eventually be forced to face the truth. If they live long enough, they may see truth revealed in their lifetime or they may come to the realization that no matter how one changes their appearance, DNA does not lie; they cannot escape who they really are. If they die in their sin, they will be forced to face the absolute truths of God and His holiness, that salvation and real joy can only be found in submitting to the atoning work of Christ Jesus, and the necessity of rejecting sin and its ways. In short, as Amos warned Israel, we must all “Prepare to meet your God.”

Whether one is straight or identifies as transgender or gay, no amount of make-up will cover the Truth. Regardless of how strongly the government, media, or public education system tries to convince us of deception and gag the Truth, still, “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” We will all face Jesus one day and answer the question, “Did you choose your own way or God’s only way?”
