When rapper Kanye West shocked the public with his release of a Christian album back in 2019, he appealed to a modern touchstone of American Christianity with his song, “Closed on Sunday.”
Here’s a sample of the lyrics: “Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A
You’re my number one, with the lemonade
Raise our sons, train them in the faith
Through temptations, make sure they’re wide awake
Follow Jesus, listen and obey
No more livin’ for the culture, we nobody’s slave…”
Kanye may have been a recent convert at the time, but he knew that Christians love them some Chick-fil-A. In fact, ever since 2012’s “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day” wrapped lines of customer vehicles around the company’s franchises as they came out to support founder Truett Cathy’s public support of traditional marriage, Chick-fil-A has been synonymous with conservative values. Readers may remember how the restaurant was being kicked out of airports and off college campuses, even run out of cities which said the restaurant’s values were inconsistent with their municipality’s.
Many Christian conservatives’ response was to make Chick-fil-A their go-to fast-food joint and the lines have really never gone back to normal. In standing up for traditional morality and building their brand on Biblical values, Chick-fil-A won over a loyal, die-hard fan base. Unfortunately, that loyalty only goes one way.
Within a few years, the company had begun to make changes to their social outreach programs which might appeal to those who had written them off as “bigoted.” In spite of their prosperity, which was a direct result of the standing for Christian tradition and Biblical morality, the company quietly abandoned that strong stance – and their customer base – to win over the left.
The company dropped their support for mainstream Christian ministries like the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes when these were brought to their attention as not standing up for gay rights. They instead began to support Covenant House, which proudly “affirms” gay homeless teenagers they house and has hosted drag queen story hours. It has also been discovered that Chick-fil-A has made donations to the radical Southern Poverty Law Center – the organization which inspired a shooter to attempt to murder staffers at the Family Research Council carrying Chick-fil-A sandwiches to smear in his victims’ faces.
The latest evidence of this shift is their 2021 hiring of a vice president of the left’s favorite topic and completely transparent Trojan Horse: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The DEI statement on their website includes language supporting “sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression…”
At a recent conference for their “Chick-fil-A Impact Accelerator” program which supports local non-profits, one of the speakers was “Zing” Shaw, the DEI officer for The Recording Academy. The part of her bio which sticks out is that when in the same position at the Atlanta Hawks, she led the team to be the first in the NBA to celebrate the LGBTQ “community.”
The Chick-fil-A Impact Accelerator is spearheaded by their Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Engagement, Carol Waddy, who has also led Chick-fil-A to be a founding member organization of the ESG & CSR Board.
ESG stands for Environmental Social Governance and CSR is Corporate Social Responsibility. Both are buzzwords for companies sharing globalist goals which disenfranchise local and self-government. To learn more about ESG, see Steve Huston’s report here.
Christians need to realize that Chick-fil-A is not the ally against homosexuality and gender ideology that they were in 2012. They may still be the most polite and organized and they may still play Christian music in their franchises, but at the corporate level, the company is slowly leaning away from the customer base that has spurred their incredible growth and looking for acceptance, instead, from those who hate them.
