Say What?

Pray now that Roe v Wade will be overturned and that the attack on life in Michigan by Planned Parenthood will be soundly defeated. Plan now to be at the American Decency building (203 E. Last week we urged you, DO NOT SIGN any petition regarding abortion or “reproductive rights” along with several reasons why one should not sign. If you missed that article which describes the battle in Michigan and why we mustn’t sign their petition I encourage you to read it here.

Today, it’s my hope that if someone approaches you to sign their petition that you will engage them in conversation. This will both occupy their time to keep them from gathering other signatures for awhile and perhaps convince others who are listening to refrain from signing too.

There are many things a petitioner may say to try to convince you of the merit in signing their petition. Right to Life of Michigan has answers for you to give. Click here to download their two page paper of “If They Say…You Say…” Scroll down through the documents and choose whether you want the document in English or Spanish. This will give you a good foundation for carrying on a conversation. Here are a few of the suggestions you’ll find in this document:

They Say: This amendment gives people the fundamental right to birth control without interference from the government.

You Say: There are no Michigan laws against birth control. There are no plans for future Michigan laws that would interfere with women having access to birth control.

They Say: Michigan citizens should have the constitutional right to abortion care and reproductive freedom.

You Say: All women have the right to reproductive care in the state of Michigan. Women have access to prenatal care, postpartum care, infertility care, and birth control. Pregnancy help centers provide care for women who are not able to see a doctor. Abortion is not reproductive care as it harms women mentally and physically, and it guarantees that out of the two patients involved, one will die.

They Say: This amendment protects the rights of the LGBTQ community by allowing them to get the care that they need.

You Say: This radical abortion, anti-Michigan amendment harms children along with their parents by allowing unregulated clinics and schools to handout steroids and hormones to minors without consent from parents. These hormone treatments have permanent consequences that the parents should know about—including sterilization. This amendment eliminates parent’s fundamental rights to care for the safety and wellbeing of their children.

These are just three of the twelve deceptive statements and appropriate responses given on this particular document. Download it for yourself and prepare to engage! To be sure, this is a battle for life; but it’s more than that. It really will affect the whole of Michigan and the stance that we, as a state, will take on many issues.

 Join us at American Decency headquarters this Friday, May 20 at 1 pm to hear Thom Powell, one of Michigan’s strongest and most able voices, as he informs us, encourages us, and directs us on the best course of action to stop Planned Parenthood’s heinous coup. If we don’t act now, they will have an open opportunity to put before voters, in November, a proposal that will change Michigan’s constitutional landscape and even open the door to infanticide!
