Sometimes for Christians who pay attention to politics and societal changes, we can feel like the prophet Elijah – as if we are the last of a dying breed. The internet, the media, even the changes we see in our own family members can make it feel like there’s no one left on our side. All we ever see is the bad guys winning and the good guys turning out to be bad guys too.
In moments like these, God often reopens our eyes to the glories of the world He’s made – through nature, through art and architecture, through the interactions of people who bear His image.
I’m reminded of what Sam Gamgee says in the Lord of the Rings: There’s some good in this world… and it’s worth fighting for.
May God open our eyes to His handiwork all around us and refresh us.
