A film for our day – God’s Not Dead: We the People

By: Lisa Van Houten

How much can government control us?  That question has played out in recent years as we’ve seen a growing encroachment upon our First Amendment freedoms.  During Covid, we saw the government attempt to dictate when churches could be open, how many could gather together for worship, and even if worshippers were allowed to sing praises to God.  We’ve seen the infringement of freedom of speech online and on college campuses, as well as the undermining of parental rights in the education of their children.

Next Thursday, October 6, at 7:00 pm, American Decency Association (203 E. Main, Fremont, MI) will be showing the film God’s Not Dead: We the People, which reflects the attacks on freedom we’re seeing in our nation and encourages believers to remain strong in the fight to protect their God-given liberty.  At the same time, the film demonstrates the faithfulness of God in the midst of the struggles and trials of life.

The God’s Not Dead franchise continues in God’s Not Dead: We the People as Reverend Dave is called to defend a group of Christian homeschooling families. He finds himself taken aback by the interference of the government, and believing that their right to educate their own children is a freedom worth fighting for, Reverend Dave is called to Washington, DC to testify in a landmark congressional hearing that will determine the future of religious freedom.  Ultimately, Dave realizes he’s fighting for much more than just the rights of homeschooling, but the foundations of faith, liberty and unity that built America.

David A.R. White, who directed and stars in the film stated: “They want to control exactly what they’re teaching and take God out of that equation.  We have the backdrop of a whole incredible movie that deals with the things that are going on right now. Where does the government stop and when is it right for the government to be involved in our lives?

“Ronald Reagan has this great quote at the beginning of the trailer and it talks about how freedom is a fragile thing and if we’re not careful, that it can go away.  As those freedoms are stripped away, you’re never able to get that freedom back and what we’re seeing right now in our country is parts of that, and that’s a scary thing and I think that’s why this movie is so relevant.”

MovieGuide gives the film a “thumbs up,” writing in their review: “We the People is a strong, patriotic movie about the Christian roots of the United States and its constitution and the importance for Americans to fight for their freedoms. …The movie stresses the importance of the Bible, liberty, standing up to government tyranny, and honoring those people who have served to hold onto America’s freedom.  MOVIEGUIDE® encourages parents to watch We the People with their children.”

In addition, to David A. R. White, the film features other familiar faces from the God’s Not Dead franchise, while Fox News viewers will enjoy seeing the fiery Judge Jeanine Pirro, who is also featured in the film.

To watch this compelling movie, join us on Thursday, October 6 at 7:00 PM at American Decency Association (203 E Main Street, Fremont).  We encourage you to invite your family and friends!
