Praying for Justice…and Justices

Do you know the following names?

Samuel Alito
Amy Coney Barrett
Stephen Breyer

Brett Kavanaugh

Sonia Sotomayor
Clarence Thomas

It likely wouldn’t help if I added the date of December 1, 2021; but what if I put the honorable title of Justice before their names? Yes, these are the names of the nine men and women who are responsible to ensure that the American people receive “EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW” (these are the words written above the main entrance to the Supreme Court Building) and to act as guardian and interpreter of the Constitution. We’ll come back to this list of names at the end of this email.

On May 17, the Supreme Court put abortion on the docket for its upcoming session; they agreed to hear Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Of course this gripped the minds of Americans who follow the abortion issue, those who long for justice for the unborn, those American citizens who have no voice, and those who are the weakest members of our society. These are denied the inalienable rights of “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness.”

Fast approaching is December 1st. That is when the Supreme Court will hear the oral arguments and then later in 2022 the High Court will give its decision. Right to Life shares that “‘Dobbs’is the first DIRECT CHALLENGE to Roe v. Wade in 29 years!”

With the hearing of the Dobbs case brings the possibility of overturning Roe v. Wade, which has legislated this senseless loss of life (abortion) and ensured injustice for a large segment of American’s citizenry since 1973.

There are a lot of “reasons” given for why abortion should be acceptable; one that seems to gain traction with many is the issue of viability. Star Parker wrote for The Epoch Times on this issue back in August. Each of us needs to let her words sink into our heart and mind:

“The Mississippi attorney general questions the relevance of the viability standard, challenging particularly that there is any basis for it in the Constitution.

“But we must dig deep here, because we’re not just dealing with the question of viability of the unborn child. We are dealing with questions about the viability of our society and our country.

“Can we really function as a society and as a nation while turning away from the most central issue that any society faces—awe of the mystery of life?”

Although the Supreme Court is the highest court in the land and final earthly arbiter of the law within the United States, there is one court that is higher and One who is Just above all. Of course I speak of the court of heaven and of Jesus Christ. It is to this heavenly court and this Supreme Just One I implore you to appeal to and to whom we must cry out.

At the start of this email I wrote a list of the nine Supreme Court Justices; please pray for them by name. I urge you to be in fervent prayer that God will move on their individual and collective minds, granting them wisdom and courage for righteousness and justice as they deliberate the Dobbs case.

If not daily, I encourage you to choose a day that you will weekly dedicate to bombarding the courts of heaven in regard to this lesser high court—giving thanks for them and asking God to move their minds—knowing that “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” (Prov. 21:1)

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (I Timothy 2:1-4)
