Monumental Sin

Monuments and memorials tell a story about who we are, what we have stood for, and in many ways where we are going. They point to our history and serve as reminders to us. Some stand as reminders of greatness while others represent great loss or great atrocity.

In Joshua 4:20-24, God gave three reasons for having a memorial. 1) To teach children the history of God in their nation. 2) That the earth might know the mighty hand of God. 3) That they themselves would remember to fear and reverence God.

“And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal. And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. For the Lordyour God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lordyour God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lordyour God for ever.”

What are we teaching the children of America and what are we showing to the world as we exchange one standard of monuments/memorials for a standard that runs contrary to that which we once held in esteem. How will this change affect the fear of the Lord in our churches, our children, and for us as individuals? Some of these questions, sadly, have been answered; and those with discernment are very concerned.

Five years ago a gunman opened fire in the Pulse nightclub, a gay club in Orlando, FL, killing 49 and leaving 53 wounded. This was truly a tragedy, particularly when viewed from an eternal perspective.

Last year, monuments of historically important and brave men were torn down, attempts have been made to rewrite our history, and the ideologies and principles that made America great and free have been denigrated by those set on the destruction of America. All the while, Marxist—Maoist names and ideologies were, and are being, lifted up and honored. (A short interview with Curtis Bowers on these topics starts at the 16 minute mark here.)

Recently, regime leader, Joe Biden, announced that he would designate the Pulse nightclub a national memorial, push on Congress to pass stricter gun control legislation, and called on the Senate to pass the Equality Act. Fox news reported Mr. Biden as saying, “We must drive out hate and inequities that contribute to the epidemic of violence and murder against transgender women – especially transgender women of color.”

We know that the Left has had an agenda to push; that the communists have planned a long march against America; and that “woke” businesses, schools, politicians, and churches are full-tilt not only in not fearing God but also in striving against the commands and principles He set forth in Scripture. Some well-meaning individuals have been deceived into doing so; regardless, that’s their stand.

Once a nation falls from abhorring sin, to committing sin publically, to shamelessly celebrating sin, and even setting up memorials to sin, God has given that nation over to a collective reprobate mind. Read the end of Romans chapter one.

“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

That’s us; may God have mercy. Bring repentance and revival to us, we pray.
