Yesterday (Thursday, July 16) our featured guest was Steve Ensley, President and Founder of American Family Online.
As our staff commented after the interview, our time was spent, in part, on the historical development of the Internet; and how it evolved from only highly professional specialists seeing a need for it and using it, to its rapid expansion in the span of a very short period of time. We briefly traced a time table from roughly 1994 to the present.
Steve stated, as we got quite deeply into our discussion, though he had been highlighting the dark side of the Internet, there are obviously so many pluses. It isn’t the Internet that is the problem; it is how it’s often used wrongly, even for wicked ends.
We spent a fair amount of time discussing efforts of pro-family organizations to promote legislation to regulate pornography, but the massive push back from Internet and phone carriers and their moneyed lobbyists prevailed back in the 1990s. We spoke very generally on this topic; but we discussed the reality that there, indeed, were efforts to curb the flow of pornography over the Internet.
Both Steve and I shared our hearts concern regarding the lethargy of the citizenry and more particularly the Christian community to see and to seek out God’s high calling to “pursue holiness without which no man shall see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14.
In conclusion, Steve shared his own testimony of being saved at the age of 37 and how God called him into ministry through AFA’s renowned founder and former President, the Rev Donald E. Wildmon, calling him out and saying “You are the one.” Saying that Steve Ensley was his choice to be AFA’s first computer “feller” in Don’s vernacular, which endeared many of us to this wise saint of God.
There are many other little nuggets of testimony showing God’s hand in the ministry of both Steve and me, Bill Johnson.
