Overcomer

By: Steve Huston

Don’t miss out on our first event of the year! Call Kimberly at 231-924-4050 or email her at kimberly@americandecency.org to RSVP. You’ll want to make sure you have a reserved seat (1 PM or 7 PM); we expect a full house for the newest Kendrick brothers’ film, OVERCOMER. More details below.

“He that overcometh…” In Revelation chapters three and four we see these words of Jesus repeated to each of the seven churches He addresses, each time followed by an amazing promise.

It takes an active faith to be an overcomer in this world. First John chapter five and verse four reads: “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” It takes faith to leave both our sin behind and to leave the ways of the world behind, opting rather to identify with our Savior and to live—by faith—according to the Word of God.

Who are you? How do you identify yourself? Most people identify themselves by their jobs, family relationships, and for some, by their sin. Christians need to find their identity in Jesus, their Savior. Until we do, we won’t be overcomers; we’ll be distracted, side-tracked, and deceived.

When we abide in Christ, recognizing our relationship with Him as being our identity, our life takes on a deeper and powerful meaning. As Jesus taught His disciples in John 15:5, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

The Kendrick brothers have recently come out with a new film that did extremely well at the theater and we are pleased to present it to you at the American Decency headquarters (203 E. Main St, Fremont, MI) on Friday, January 31. Don’t miss out on this family friendly movie that presents the Gospel message, the healing power of forgiveness, and the importance of realizing our identity in Christ.

Here is an online movie summary of the movie OVERCOMER (watcher the trailer here):

Life changes overnight for Coach John Harrison when his high school basketball team and state championship dreams are crushed under the weight of unexpected news. When the largest manufacturing plant shuts down and hundreds of families leave their town, John questions how he and his family will face an uncertain future. After reluctantly agreeing to coach cross-country, John and his wife, Amy, meet an aspiring athlete who’s pushing her limits on a journey toward discovery. Inspired by the words and prayers of a new-found friend, John becomes the least likely coach helping the least likely runner attempt the impossible in the biggest race of the year.

Invite your church, bring some friends, and join us on January 31, 2020 at either the 1 PM or 7 PM showing. (To assure your seat please RSVP)
