Christmas and New Years is behind us now. During the holiday season it’s easier to keep our focus on Jesus and to share His truth with others. It’s like a yearly built in witnessing tool. But what now? The decorations are dismantled, the trees are taken down, the nativity sets are boxed up, and the never-ending echo of carols have all but reverberated from our minds. Yet the TRUTH remains. The Gospel still needs to be shared and holy living encouraged. We, who are in Christ, still experience the blessing beyond the “season” and still have a responsibility to fulfill, to share the gospel with a dark and dying world.
Jesus, His name is still Emmanuel, which means “God with us.” Jesus, the reason He came is still to “save His people from their sin.” Jesus, the name that calms our fears, brings peace to our soul, and saves to the uttermost. Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords, He is still worthy of all worship and is returning for His own one day.
Because of all this, let us stand alone on the Word of God, standing for right. This automatically pits us against evil in these embattled days. Whether standing against false doctrine or false religion; whether standing against such unholy assaults as pornography, perverted views of marriage or sexuality, the denial of or “re-creating” of God in any image but that “whole” and holy image which the Bible gives; let us put on the whole armor of God having done all to stand in this evil day.
We must walk in holiness; strive to press on deeper in holiness. The fight is on as Satan desires to damage our witness, stealing from the perceivable glory of God. As C.S. Lewis warns: “Good and evil both increase at compound interest. That is why the little decisions you and I make every day are of such infinite importance. The smallest good act today is the capture of a strategic point from which, a few months later, you may be able to go on to victories you never dreamed of. An apparently trivial indulgence in lust or anger today is the loss of a ridge or railway line or bridgehead from which the enemy may launch an attack otherwise impossible.”
Remembering such an exhortation and remembering the fact that “God is with us,” let us show the world that He indeed is with us and living through us. Press on in Him, walking in holiness each day of this new year, trusting in Him. Strive to make each step a step of victory which leads to further victory.
We have all said, and rightly so, to keep CHRIST in CHRISTmas. Now if we can just get the modern day church with its apathy and lukewarm living to put CHRIST back in CHRISTian. Let works accompany your faith; lead by example, not pointing to ourselves but pointing to Emmanuel, He who is with us and empowers us to daily holy living.
