Blasphemy is NOT Sweet

By: American Decency Staff

There have been names that I have loved to hear,
But never has there been a name so dear
To this heart of mine, as the name divine,
The precious, precious name of Jesus.

    Jesus is the sweetest name I know,
   And He’s just the same as His lovely name,
   And that’s the reason why I love Him so;
   Oh, Jesus is the sweetest name I know.

So goes the first verse and chorus of a favorite hymn of many, Jesus is the Sweetest Name I Know.

Christians love the name of Jesus, and rightfully so. “…There is none other name (Jesus) under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12); there is only “one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (I Tim. 2:5); no man comes to the Father, but by Jesus (Jn. 14:6); and the list of gratitude for, and in praise of, Jesus is literally endless.

So, when an ice cream company takes the sweet and precious name of Jesus, uses it vainly for their product (“Sweet Jesus” ice cream), and blasphemes the precious name of Jesus in its advertising by tying it to “…Satanic symbols interspersed throughout the ads, such as upside-down crosses, lightning bolts, skulls, roaring wildcats, and images that suggest vampires and blood” (WND Reports) it should move the Christian. How so, one may wonder?

It should move the Christian to broken humility; “but for the grace of God go I.” It should cause the believer to tremble at the judgment of God upon the ungodly and upon the nations where such things can go unchecked. (Ps. 119:119-120 “Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies. My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.”) Finally, taking the sacred name of Jesus and applying it to profane and blasphemous things should cause a righteous indignation, a holy anger to arise within those who love the sweet name of Jesus; it should make us want to speak out and to do something.

Blasphemy and mocking the Christian faith is the worst of it; but their advertisements are troubling in other ways as well. Some of the children in the ads look abused while others are sexualized, perhaps pandering to pedophiles and definitely attacking both the innocence of Jesus and of children.

This Canadian ice-cream chain was founded in 2015 and now has 19 locations in Canada, and one at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. It has plans to open in other U.S. locations, such as the Mall of America in Minneapolis.

Their webpage states, “Our name was created from the popular phrase that people use as an expression of enjoyment, surprise or disbelief. Our aim is not to offer commentary on anyone’s religion or belief systems, our own organization is made up of amazing people that represent a wide range of cultural and religious beliefs.” Regardless of their disclaimer, their disrespectful and distasteful advertising does indeed make commentary on the Christian religion.

Let your voice be heard regarding this Canadian ice cream shop, especially as it tries to gain a foothold in America. Express your love for Jesus and your abhorrence at the misuse of His sweet and lovely name.  Act NOW! Write to the owners through the company’s parent company by emailing inquiries@monarchandmisfits.com or speak to them by calling 647-888-8420.
