True Repentance is Continual Repentance

By: American Decency Staff

Before this recent election, there were many calling out for prayer and repentance. Urgency for desperate prayer, seeking the face of God, self-examination followed by a type of repentance was the order of the day. Now that votes have been tallied and “God has helped us,” the urgency for national prayer and the national call for repentance has seemed to dissipate like a college student’s anxiety, as the professor extends an assignment deadline for another week. It’s not enough that our circumstances have changed or even that our desires have changed for a short while. Eventually, there will be a day of reckoning. Yes, there are some who still seek God’s face, but many continue to spit in that Holy face and reject His holiness, now that the crisis has seemingly drawn to a close.

America, the church, our communities, you and I are in desperate need of genuine repentance. Are we willing to seek, pray for, and learn of true repentance? To do so will require that we turn to Scripture and allow the Spirit to teach us and break us. To aid in this learning, American Decency is hosting an event February 3, 2017 at 7:00 PM at our headquarters in Fremont—203 E. Main Street. Dr. Joel Beeke is a godly man with a message for the church and all people. First and foremost, he has a heart for God, and desires to see genuine prayer and repentance come to this nation, for the glory and praise of God. Genuine prayer and repentance is our greatest need and one which only God can meet. It’s also our greatest task because we are not naturally given to striving and seeking.

Perhaps we’ve come to the place where we’ve found God to be our sufficiency and rest, loving Him as best as our imperfect human hearts allow. Do we yet have nothing to repent of? Hasn’t the dust of this world still attached itself to our clothing and sullied our walk to some extent? Is there some pride which keeps us from true and genuine repentance—a kind of continual repentance? Do we glorify God in ALL that we do (I Cor. 10:31)? Are we always looking unto Jesus (Heb. 12:2)? Are we continually walking after the Spirit, with every step (Rom. 8:1)?

Read with an openness of heart and mind the words of C.H. Spurgeon as he calls us to genuine repentance.  “Remember that the man who truly repents is never satisfied with his own repentance. We can no more repent perfectly than we can live perfectly. However pure our tears, there will always be some dirt in them; there will be something to be repented of even in our best repentance. But listen! To repent is to change your mind about sin, and Christ, and all the great things of God. There is sorrow implied in this; but the main point is the turning of the heart from sin to Christ. If there be this turning, you have the essence of true repentance, even though no alarm and no despair should ever cast their shadow upon your mind.”

Certainly you can see this great need for our nation and for our personal lives. Don’t miss out on this providential opportunity to meet, learn, and pray as a corporate body of believers, gathering in the name of Christ, seeking His face to the glory of God. Save February 3, 2017 at 7:00 PM, commit to joining us at 203 E. Main St., Fremont, Michigan 49412. Start praying now, with friends, for this event. Come with others, expecting that God will meet with us and bless us with this awesome gift of repentance.

American Decency invites you for a showing of Trevor Loudon’s  film, “Enemies Within” at 1:00 and 7:00 pm on Friday, January 20 at American Decency, 203 E. Main St, in Fremont. “Enemies Within” zooms in on the best-kept secret of modern politics. Almost no one is aware of the fact that there are enemies within our government seeking to dismantle the Constitution through communism and socialism, undermining freedom and weakening our military.  Trevor Loudon exposes this concern and asks, “If America loses its strength, what will happen to our peace?”

Join us Friday, January 20 at 1:00 pm or 7:00 pm at American Decency.   For more information call 231-924-4050.
