Jesus warned, “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:8) What sobering words for us to think upon. “If I do not repent… I will perish.”
Repentance was an ongoing theme throughout the ministry of Jesus. We find it in His first messages, “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matt. 4:17; Mark 1:15) It continued to be a main thought in His final message as well. “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Luke 24:47) In Revelation chapters two and three, Jesus gives a call to repentance to the churches. Throughout the book of Acts and the apostolic writings repentance is a thread that runs constant, sewing the Old and New Testaments together, in the name of Christ.
America is in desperate need of genuine prayer and repentance. This is such a great need for each of us that we are inviting you to join us on February 3, 2017 at the American Decency Headquarters—located at 203 E. Main St., Fremont, Michigan—at 7:00 PM. Come; listen as Dr. Joel Beeke brings a timely and much needed message entitled “Needed: Genuine Prayer and Repentance.”
Repentance is a change of mind regarding sin, and forsaking it. Not just certain sins, but “All sin, because every sin is pregnant with judgment.” (David Clarkson)
Let us be ever vigilant, always on guard against sin.
We must constantly look without, for sin is not always a roaring lion, even though its author would devour us. We must keep a watchful eye within, for the heart of pride would deceive us and comfort us regarding sin. As C.H. Spurgeon warned, “Remember that the man who truly repents is never satisfied with his own repentance. We can no more repent perfectly than we can live perfectly. However pure our tears, there will always be some dirt in them; there will be something to be repented of even in our best repentance. But listen! To repent is to change your mind about sin, and Christ, and all the great things of God. There is sorrow implied in this; but the main point is the turning of the heart from sin to Christ. If there be this turning, you have the essence of true repentance, even though no alarm and no despair should ever cast their shadow upon your mind.”
Things in America would look much different today had Hillary Clinton won the election; we have received a reprieve. This is not a time to sit back and relax or believe that we were deserving of this gracious move of God’s hand. Rather, today is the time to seek God’s face. Today is the time to grow devotionally, repent daily, and depend desperately upon God.
Sin is still deeply rooted within our nation; we need a cleansing. There is still a sexual revolution taking place with society embracing its ungodliness, and embracing violence, Islamism, communism, humanism, and globalism. The division within this nation is ever-widening, only the healing unity of God’s love can repair this great divide. Nationally and personally, we are in NEED of revival; we NEED repentance. We desperately NEED God.
Come prayerfully; listen to Dr. Beeke, a man who seeks the face of God and yearns for personal and national repentance. Hear the message of genuine prayer and repentance, and our great need for it. Bring others; expecting a move of God upon our minds and lives. Join us on February 3, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Pray for this event, Dr. Beeke, and all who will be in attendance.
