To Detroit Pistons owner: Your coach did a disservice to untold numbers of Piston fans

By: American Decency Staff

So Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy thinks he knows best when it comes to North Carolina law and the safety of women and girls.  Van Gundy threw his weight around yesterday when he decided to lecture the state of North Carolina for passing legislation that requires people to use the restroom according to their biological sex.  Since when did such common sense become controversial??

Yet Van Gundy equates not allowing men access to women’s restrooms and locker rooms as the equivalent to racial discrimination.

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that Van Gundy thinks men in dresses should be allowed to use women’s bathrooms – this was the home of Dennis Rodman, after all.

Van Gundy stated“We went through this before: People had their rationale for discriminating against blacks back during segregation. I don’t care — religious liberty and all of that. Look, that’s the same stuff that people brought up during the civil rights movement. They’ll try to justify it with anything they have.

If he knew anything about this legislation he’s railing against he would know this has nothing to do with religious liberty – rather the safety of North Carolina citizens.

As North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest stated:  “ If our action in keeping men out of women’s bathrooms and showers protected the life of just one child or one woman from being molested or assaulted then it was worth it.”

Yet Van Gundy would put the “comfort” of a miniscule transgender population – which, according to the most generous of statistics, equates to just 0.3% of the population – above the safety and privacy of millions of women and girls.  How would he feel if it was his wife/daughter/granddaughter who were followed into a restroom or locker room by a man who asserted his right to be there under the law?

Yet Van Gundy stated the 2017 NBA All-Star game should not be played as scheduled in North Carolina if the law doesn’t change.  And yet this law which Van Gundy is protesting so vehemently is the current policy in Michigan, the home of the Detroit Pistons – as well as the policy in the vast majority of states!

Did Coach Van Gundy consult with his boss on this –  Tom Gores, Detroit Piston’s owner?    Is Mr. Gores supportive of Van Gundy’s bullying rhetoric seeking to use the NBA as a cudgel to pressure state legislation designed to protect half the population?  If indeed Gores is supportive, will he and Van Gundy put their extreme agenda into practice – will the women and girls who attend sporting events as the Palace, the home to Pistons, be forced to share restrooms with men?

So Van Gundy says “I don’t care– religious liberty and all of that.”

In addition, to Van Gundy saying “I don’t  care– religious liberty and all of that”, it seems he  could care less about protecting the safety and innocence of children and all people’s privacy in bathrooms because he doesn’t care about religious liberty.  So therefore because it doesn’t matter to him, he doesn’t think it should matter.

Does it matter to you?   It does to me!   Join me in standing for the safety of my/your loved ones and our religious liberty.
