New York values / American values?

By: American Decency Staff

American values?  Certain terms come to mind. Hmmm.

Where to begin, though without getting myself in deep trouble.  But is it really getting into trouble when we speak light into darkness?  The politically correct crowd would have us think so and to put our “tail between our legs”.

Certain terms come to mind regarding our society today.  In fact, as many of you know, Ted Cruz identified some things about New York values in a recent Republican debate that got him in very hot water.

Quoting Presidential candidate Ted Cruz:

I think most people know exactly what New York values are," said Mr Cruz.  "Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro–gay marriage. Focus around money and the media."

His leading opponent Donald Trump took him to task and mainstream media has had a field day.

Ted Cruz was referencing a disgust with New York values.

I don’t want to go too far down in the weeds on this so I won’t.

Do a search on Google and you’ll see all kinds of points/counterpoints in a variety of articles demeaning Ted Cruz for bringing up New York values.

Whether you support Ted Cruz or Donald Trump is not my point.  I believe that Cruz was trying to mark a distinct line between himself and Trump.  In a very real sense that’s what politicians running for office have to do – show the difference between the positions they hold.  Abortion or pro-life?  Pro-gay marriage or traditional marriage?  Open borders or secured borders?    The list goes on and on.

It is important to know the difference between candidates that are campaigning for your vote.  As citizens of these United States, it is a privilege and responsibility to be informed voters and to vote with understanding – especially with informed spiritual decision making.

In everyday living and life, too, it is important as Christians to have understanding – “to understand the times in order to know what to do”. [I Chronicles 12:32]

If you, me, our children, friends, and fellow Christians are confused about what is right or wrong on many, many issues of our day – including some of the most basic matters of life – we are in serious, serious trouble.

And, the fact is, we are in that very situation.  What is right? What is wrong?

Does it matter if people are deceived and being deceived?  (“Does it matter” even brings to mind that very question that Hillary Clinton brought up when she testified during the Benghazi  hearings.)

Does it matter?

Where to begin?

I just received an email from a supporter stating the following:

I am wondering if you have already sent out the January church bulletin insert.  If you have I must have missed it somehow, and would you please resend it to me.

I like to have it put in our church bulletin.  It is a good way of helping people acknowledge some of the cultural/ biblical issues of our age.

It is for this very reason that we produce and distribute our monthly bulletin insert to mark the difference between the holy and the profane.

Examples of topics such as:  “Is there anything wrong with Fifty Shades of Grey?”  “Is pornography victimless?”  “Is Interfaith Dialogue a sham?”

Email kimberly@americandecency.orgto begin receiving our monthly church bulletin insert.

What are the values we as followers of Christ will show forth in our lives?  What are the values we will vote for in a candidate?

We are to mark the difference between the holy and the profane.  And that is what we at American Decency strive do in our email alerts, newsletters, and church bulletin inserts.  We as individuals and the church must be vigilant in striving to think and live biblically.

Will we stand for true values or allow the fallen culture to dictate them?
