Money management: spiritual battle that needs to be fought

By: American Decency Staff

When dealing with finances, one wants their investments to grow. As Christians, we need integrity between our Biblical conscience and our financial growth.  To this end, the American Decency Association, partnering with The Timothy Plan, in an effort to help you maintain integrity and financial gain, is bringing Dan Celia, a well-respected financial expert to West Michigan.

Dan will be presenting his Biblical approach to investment and financial planning twice this month in West Michigan.  On Tuesday, March 22, 2016, he will be at the Shoreline Inn & Conference Center located at 750 Terrace Point Blvd ~ Muskegon, MI from 6:30 – 9:00 PM.  And on Thursday, March 24, 2016, he will be at the Harvest OP Church located at 930 52nd Street SW ~ Wyoming, MI from 6:30 – 9:00 PM. (Please note: Harvest OPC is not a sponsor of this event)

Recently, Dan told Samaritan Ministries, “My goal is to teach and to encourage God’s people to be Biblically responsible with their money.  We can’t put our money in funds and companies that support abortion and pornography.”

Many Christians fall into one of two categories; either they believe money is a necessary evil, doing just what they must in order to get by, or they go after money without any thought to Biblical principles.  Again from Samaritan Ministries, “Dan aims to empower the common investing Christian by first telling them it’s OK to make money, just manage it in a way that honors God. That’s done by ethical investing.” Quoting Dan, they report, “I try to teach them how to be prudent, conservative, and honor the Lord with their investments, and be satisfied with what they’re making. If they’re making 3 percent when everybody else is making 5 percent, that’s fine. In the case of 2015, if they’re making 2 percent and everybody else is losing 5 percent, they’re doing very well.

Don’t miss out on this exciting, FREE event as Dan answers these questions:

·         What are the Biblical principles of sound stewardship?

·         How do we as Christians manage in this economy?

·         Do politics matter in your stewardship?

·         Are Christians responsible to vote?

·         How do we choose our leaders?

·         At the end, there will also be an opportunity to ask your own questions.

Dan is first and foremost a Christian; in light of that, he calls himself a behavioral economist. To which he says, “It’s a lost art on Wall Street.” Samaritan Ministries describes a behavioral economist thusly, “A ‘behavioral economist’ looks at the behavior of corporate America, its view of macroeconomics, and how corporations are reacting to it.”  After which they quote Dan as saying, “I’m doing the same with the consumer side of it. What I try to do is keep an ear to what’s happening on Main Street. I do all the fundamental economics I have to, but I take it a step beyond that.”
