As parents and grandparents we strive to keep our families safe, yet when it comes to the internet, we don’t do all we should to protect them – and ourselves. In this work at American Decency Association I have heard from countless ones whose lives have been damaged by online pornography. Since the inception of the Internet, children are being exposed and drawn in to pornography at younger and younger ages.
Below is a message from a man I am honored to call friend. Steve Ensley heads American Family Online and works tirelessly to warn of the harmful aspects of the internet, while providing an excellent service to help protect families from those dangers.
I strongly urge you to consider the ways listed below in which you can be more proactive in keeping your family safe. We wouldn’t allow them to travel in a car without a safety belt – don’t send them online without one either.
From the Desk of Steve Ensley
Dear Friends,
I have often described the Internet as the "Roman Roads" of our time. Just like the Roman road system helped spread the Gospel in the early church, the Internet is a tremendous tool to help spread the Gospel in our time. But there is a down side.
For years, very fine folks have been patiently listing to my warnings about the 'dark side' of the Internet and I have some good news and some bad news in this regard. The bad news is the Internet is getting exponentially worse. Just check out any of the news programs, search engines or web sites and the truth is readily apparent.
Pornography, vulgarity, extreme violence, identity theft, hacking, viruses and more seem almost out of control, with new evils appearing every day!
However the good news is:
American Family online has invested the last several years in developing new technologies and services to help you protect yourself and your family from what I call the dark side of the Internet. These tools target the features and functions that you would use on the Internet every day and they are designed to provide maximum safety, security and privacy.
These new tools include:
• FireFox2 – new, faster and more accurate web filtering for PC's.
• AFOmail – fully encrypted, secured, ad free, private email service.
•MobileWebGuard – filtering for mobile devices, smart phones and tablets
• AFO Hosting – hosting and development services for your personal or business web site.
We encourage you to check out these services for your own safety. For more information, please go to http://afo.net
About AFO: American Family Online (AFO), founded in 1998, has provided filtering, hosting and email service designed specifically with safety and security as integral functions. This new service takes our services to the next level helping to bring better Internet safety into the 21st Century.
