Do you have a few hours a month to help ADA?

By: American Decency Staff

Since the early beginnings of this ministry over 25 years ago, American Decency Association has been blessed with scores of faithful volunteers.   We began with several friends gathering in my living room to prepare mailings.  As our organization grew, so did our need of volunteers which God raised up.  First Reformed Church in Fremont graciously hosted our monthly newsletter mailing “parties” for many years as dozens of volunteers came together for a morning to stuff newsletters and to enjoy a delicious brunch prepared by Marcia Walthers, (and, in later years, prepared by Stephanie, Rachelle, and Ashley Lankhorst when a health issue prevented Marcia from continuing her service).

In 2007 God blessed ADA with our own building on Main Street in Fremont!  One benefit of our new headquarters was having the room to hold our monthly mailings in our building.  Our mailings still continue, (including a delicious brunch), and our volunteers continue to faithfully serve.

These dear saints are so special to us!  Some of my most cherished memories over the years of ministry involve these faithful friends.  Their sacrificial service has been an incredible witness to me and my staff over the years.  This “greatest generation” has never “retired” from serving the Lord!  They continue to give and serve – and leave for us an amazing example of how to finish the race well.

As the years have gone by, however, many of our volunteers have aged from their sixties and seventies, to many now in their eighties and nineties.  In recent years, a number of our volunteers have gone home to be with the Lord.  Others have been hit with health problems which keep them from the service they loved.  Yet those who are able continue to serve the Lord and this ministry so very well and so faithfully.

However, as our numbers have diminished, we are looking to bolster our ranks of volunteers to help us with our monthly newsletter mailings.  And so, we’re asking you, if you’re able, to consider joining us at our next mailing.  Of course, you don’t have to be a senior citizen – home school families, part-time workers, stay-at-home moms, and, yes, those in their retirement years – would be great additions to our volunteer team.  We’ve been blessed to have home school students join us at times and what a joy to see older and younger working side by side!

Our mailings typically take place the last Thursday of the month.  We get started about 8:00 a.m., with our volunteers typically arriving between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. (coming and going as needed).  Our mailings are usually finished by 10:30 a.m., taking a break about 9:00 for brunch.

Our next mailing will be this Thursday, September 29 at American Decency, 203 E. Main St. in Fremont.  Please consider joining us!

Your presence not only would be a blessing to us at ADA and an encouragement to our current volunteer team, but also, I believe, will be a blessing to you as well, as we serve the Lord and fellowship together.

If you have any questions, give us a call at 231-924-4050.

We’d love to have you join us!
