… of wars and rumors of war – spiritual warfare is alive

By: American Decency Staff

There was a special sense of God’s presence as we gathered together in Christ’s name yesterday for Sunday worship.

One extra blessing of the day was the celebration of a 95 year old saint of God whom my wife’s mother had referred to as the best Christian she had ever known!  Those were powerful words coming from my mother-in-law as she was one of the finest Christian women I have ever known.  Too, what a blessing it was to see a very large majority of Vivian’s  family showing up for this special event in their mother/grandmother’s celebration!

God blesses those who bless Him.  This woman, Vivian, has and continues to bless many by her life!

This celebration added to what was already a blessed day at both services.  Coming together under and around the word of God is a rich blessing to believers.  Worshipping filled with hearty singing with believing hearts looking to their Creator, the One true and only God.

And, the preaching of God’s Word?

The preaching in the morning dealt with the sovereignty of God through and in the midst of wickedness and sometimes in the midst of great suffering and heartbreak!  Our pastor just lost his sister still in her forties leaving behind a husband and young children.

You can sense his heartbreak for the family now without a mother, a wife yet still trusting, believing, and recognizing that God is still working out His purposes for now and for all eternity!

Unlike the battles of the world, true Christianity fights in a realm that does not depend upon physical strength, the strong arm, the quick eye or the swift foot. Conventional weaponry does not come into play. Rather, its weapons are spiritual — and faith is the axis upon which the battle turns.

A general faith in the truth of God's written Word, is the primary foundation of the Christian soldier's character. He . . .
is what he is,
does what he does,
thinks as he thinks,
acts as he acts,
hopes as he hopes,
behaves as he behaves —
for one simple reason — he believes certain propositions revealed and laid down in Holy Scripture. "He who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6)….

As for true Christians, faith is the very backbone of their spiritual existence. No one ever fights earnestly against the world, the flesh and the devil — unless he has engraved on his heart, certain great principles which he believes… Wherever you see a man, whether rich or poor, learned or unlearned, wrestling manfully with sin and trying to overcome it — you may be sure there are certain great principles which that man believes.”J.C.
