On a bookshelf at home, I have stacks of newspaper reports, articles, letters to advertisers, politicians, church leaders, and school administrators that document our activism and stands for truth and which flow from our heart for God, for His children, and for His righteousness.
God has blessed our faithfulness. We still exist and see and sense His hand in the work we do day by day!
Years ago in our office we began to recognize that moms and dads and grandparents were the last bastion of defense between sexual entrepreneurs of one stripe or another – Hollywood, corporate America, pornographers, sex traffickers – and our children.
I wrote the following in an email alert dated December 10, 2003 just days after Abercrombie & Fitch stated they would no longer publish their pornographic catalog:
“I recall years ago when Calvin Klein was pushing the envelope with images of scantily clad youth on posters on major city buses. The American people rose up against it.
I wondered then how long America would yet be able to send such a clear message of indignation that a seemingly conscienceless corporation would necessarily be “spanked” by angry consumers and be impacted enough to withdraw their seedy advertisements.
The victory yesterday (December 9, 2003) was our most recent example that multitudes yet in our beloved country do not find scantily clad youth portrayed in photos depicting casual, recreational, deviant sexuality acceptable and will not be supported in the shopping place.”
These various forces recognized that if parents didn’t resist Abercrombie and Fitch, Victoria’s Secret, Family Video, and the ever more explicit network television, our children would be open game for their sexual exploitation.
What about today?
Where are you moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas? Where are you adults?
They still are to be found. I know they are. But, what about you? What about me?
Opportunities abound. Will you resist when your school, your local fast food restaurant pushes transgender bathrooms upon you? Will you stand by silently as “a man without a chest” when your daughter now is expected to share a bathroom with a male deviant?
These are important questions for you to ask of yourself! Where are you in all of this?
