Looking for your affirmation for our work

By: American Decency Staff

Do you appreciate what we are doing here at American Decency Association?

As you have read our emails, if you have found yourself appreciating our ministry, you can help us advance our cause in Christ as we close out an eventful year.

An anonymous donor has extended a match challenge of $10,000 for those who have never given or haven’t given since 2013 or before.

At this time, we are still nearly $7,000 short of reaching the goal with a deadline date of December 31, 2015.   To stand with us click here.

From our ministry’s earliest beginnings, as leader, I was primarily focused on fighting pornography.  Though I had come out of a solid family with good values and wonderful parents, I was not raised in a Christian home.  I was not a Christian.  While an undergrad at Michigan State University, I became a user of pornography.  I was addicted.  In 1969 (in my first year of teaching), I met my wife-to-be and began going to church with her.  Within months, I received Christ as Lord and Savior.  Jan and I were married (May 1970).  Shortly after becoming a Christian I became convicted about my pattern of pornography addiction.

God drew me close to Himself.  I memorized scripture and humbled myself before God and sought His help.

I sensed the personal presence and power of God early in my Christian life at twenty-three years of age.  That sense of His presence and power has been with me over all of these years since then.

It is in that context our ministry began and continues.  During those early years I had many speaking opportunities.

Often when I was speaking at churches I would share my personal conviction of how could I say that I love God and my wife and yet look upon things that were in direct opposition to God’s Holy Name and character.

On the basis of what I was seeing, hearing, and experiencing in our ministry, I became concerned that we were well on our way to becoming a reprobate nation – a people that was “exchanging God’s Truth for a lie.”  This oft-quoted scriptural passage from Romans 1 has repeatedly come to mind.

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
Romans 1:21-28

My spiritual sensibilities were accurate.  It is, therefore, in this context that we do ministry.

And yet, back in 1996 when network television was beginning to “shove homosexuality down our throats” I just couldn’t imagine our nation “sliding into Gomorrah” as it has so readily done.   Guys kissing guys as normal?

In all fairness to the remnant, there are many wonderful people who won’t bow the knee to this brazenness. It is going to get much worse and, I believe, quite quickly.  We haven’t seen anything yet.

We have become convinced that because of America’s rebellion, defiance, ingratitude, and unholiness our country is on a path of destruction – short of widespread repentance, a  turning back to God.

Here is a very short overview of recent activities and positions that we have taken.

In 2014 from WZZM (channel 13 – an ABC affiliate), Grand Rapids, asking if I would do an interview  regarding the decision reached by Federal District Judge Bernard Friedman (Detroit) that ruled in favor of same sex marriage -ruling against the Michigan popular vote from 2004.  WZZM said they hadn’t been able to find anyone willing to interview with them from a biblical perspective.  The interview is below. http://bit.ly/1PSHgdM

We received a call this past spring as our local theater had brought the explicit “Fifty Shades of Grey” into our local community.   The interview is included in this article.  https://americandecency.org/full_article.php?article_no=3062

In addition, I took part in a press conference on the steps of the Supreme Court and was a speaker with other national leaders on the day before the Supreme Court heard oral arguments regarding Obergefell vs. Hodges.  http://bit.ly/1EHKY9I

In closing, we are humbled that at such a time as this God has raised up this ministry, equipped and blessed us to continue to be – in a very real sense – an instrument of His love, mercy, grace and truth before a watching world in our local community, in West Michigan, and throughout our nation as God renews us day by day.

When I say we are humbled, that is descript as we are under no illusions as to our vulnerability, our weakness, our fragility  in a society that is growing increasingly hostile to Christians and to a Christian ministry that desires to live and serve Jesus and His people – come what may.

Truly, we are looking for your affirmation for our work.

You can help us advance our cause in Christ as we close out an eventful year of standing for truth.
