Having a form of godliness?

By: American Decency Staff

You may be familiar with the passage from II Timothy 3:5 that says “having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof.”

To which I would define that as – phony faith, hypocrisy, even unbelief.

It is a joy to see and hear tangible evidences opposite of that:living godly lives in Christ Jesus rather than having a form of godliness.

 Consider —

I have family coming in from Pennsylvania early this morning – (May God be merciful once again as they travel).

After preaching the morning and evening services, my son-in-law Chris and daughter Jen left east Pennsylvania at 9:00 PM last evening and are driving all night (12 hours) to get here and will already leave early Friday for Chris to be back in Pennsylvania to preach this coming Sunday!

This is a love of Christ – giving out what God has put in:  His love and Truth.

 Another example:

Tears of joy fell yesterday as the kids sang and rang hand bells at our church’s children’s Christmas program.

As the old saying goes “Wise men still seek Him.”

Spurgeon writes:  Old things have passed away. He loves what he hated, and hates what he loved. He believes what he denied, and disbelieves what he formerly accepted.

Those who seek Him will find Him.   Jesus says:  “He who abides in me, I will abide in him.”

Every morning on my Facebook page, I post verses and brief readings which I come upon in my alone time with the Lord.

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof?  May that not be so for you or me.

Lastly, there are thousands of you who receive our email alerts, who have never shown your support of our work at American Decency Association.  We are prayerfully seeking to raise about $4,700 to complete a match challenge specifically for those of you who have never given to American Decency Association (or who haven’t given since 2013).

We could really use your help right now.  Every gift of any amount is so deeply appreciated.

Please consider this important match challenge request.  Click here to support our ministry efforts.

We have reached a total of $5,304 in our goal of $10,000 towards the match grant.

We are now $4,696 short of the goal laid out by an anonymous donor.

Dear friend:  If our ministry has MINISTERED into your life in this last year, we are calling out to you to let us know by making a year-end gift to us today (or before December 31).

Your gift likely will be doubled by a match challenge recently extended to us to assist us in finishing the year with greater strength.

This challenge and offer is written by an anonymous donor:

After much prayer and evaluation we have decided to offer a match up to $10,000 for all new givers (someone who hasn’t given since 12/31/13) who give in response to a matching appeal between now and 12/31/15.

Please prayerfully consider and stand with us as generously as God leads.  Thanks, friend in Christ!
