Christian worldliness?
Worldiness? Come out from among them and be ye separate?
Who even talks like any more? Or another question is: Do you yourself think or speak or live in such a way?
J.C. Ryle (1816-1900) said it this way:
Christian Worldliness?
“There is a widely-spread desire to make things pleasant in religion – to saw off the corners and edges of the cross, and to avoid, as far as possible, self-denial. On every side we hear professing Christians declaring loudly that we must not be “narrow and exclusive” and that there is no harm in many things which the holiest of saints of old thought bad for their souls.
“That we may go anywhere, and do anything, and spend our time in anything, and read anything, and keep any company, and plunge into anything, and all the while may be very good Christians – this is the maxim of thousands. In a day like this I think it good to raise a warning voice, and invite attention to the teaching of God’s Word. It is written in that Word, ‘Come out and be separate.’“
~ J.C. Ryle
Then along comes this breaking news item:
REMOVING GENDER LABELS:Target stores will no longer have 'boys' and 'girls' sections in most of the children's departments in their stores. The chain is removing gender labels from toys and bedding sections after customers complained about gender stereotyping.
Here’s what Dave Agema (member of the National Republican Committee stated in response: Really! Political correctness once again trumping good judgment. We have long ago stopped shopping their because of their liberal moral views. This is nuts!
Agema is sadly often vilified (particularly by RINOs – Republicans in name only) for such “narrow is the way” Christian comments.
But in all reality how can anyone of us who name the name of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior hold any other position?
And, Target has been one of those corporations that has led the way in supporting godless causes or rather supporting godlessness!
I can hear some of you saying already: “Yeah, but where can a person shop anymore. Aren’t they all engaged in such rot to one degree or another?”
And, though that point is well-taken, nonetheless, there are those corporations like TARGET that especially seem to pride themselves in going into the godless “waters” much more quickly than the others. Think STARBUCKS for one.
Here is a powerful and helpful tool for people like many of you who want to know how companies like Target, Starbucks and others come down on such things as pornography, abortion, lifestyle.
It’s called: Screen it Clean it.
This program is intended to provide information on publicly traded companies regarding violations of family values. It will provide a report of the violations, products and subsidiaries, if any are found
One particular verse that has shaped my Christian stance over the years is
Romans 12:1,2:
I appeal to you therefore, brothers,by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
In closing, C.H. Spurgeon stated it this way:
If you were God’s children you would loathe the very thought of the world’s evil joys, and your question would not be, “How far may we be like the world?” but your one cry would be, “How far can we get away from the world? How much can we come out from it?”
May God strengthen you and yours and me and mine.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers,by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
