Can You Unravel This Mystery?

By: American Decency Staff

"This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church." (Eph 5:32)

It ought to tell us something that the Bible – the one absolute in an uncertain world – calls marriage a "profound mystery." It's important; it's deep; it's unexplained.

The Meriam Webster dictionary says that a mystery, by one definition, is "a religious truth that one can know only by revelation and cannot fully understand."

But, we're also told that the relationship between husband and wife refers to, or is a miniature of, Christ and the Church.

It's easy to read that verse, give an understanding nod of assent, and get back to complaining about the weather, but that really ought to be a life-changing revelation.

Do we seek for our marriages to show the world how Christ loves us and how much we love Him? In a world where" marriage" can mean anything, do our marriages testify to the Truth that means everything?

From a Christian standpoint, marriage is vitally important; it's a picture of our most fundamental beliefs. But, the Bible also tells us that it's hard to understand. That means it is the duty and privilege of Christians to do our best to unravel the mystery of marriage – to paint the best portrait of Christ's love for us, and our love for Him, that we can.

ADA is passionate about this responsibility, so we're hosting our second annual weekend (June 5-7) at The Shack in White Cloud, MI, and we're doing it with the theme of "Bringing Christ Home: Family and the Supremacy of Christ."

Those of you who went to last year's weekend retreat will remember the beautiful grounds of the Shack on Robinson Lake with the paddle boat rides and the walking trails and the hot tub rooms and the atmosphere of a facility founded on and infused with the love of Christ.

Perhaps you thought, like we did, "what a great place for a marriage conference!" and it is. You will not find a more beautiful, peaceful, dare I say "romantic," atmosphere than the Shack Bed and Breakfast.

We want the content of the weekend to be available to as many people as possible, so we aren't charging for the conference itself. We do, however, urge you to stay at the Shack's facilities, and we promise you won't regret it.

We hope to see you there!
