Anti-gay speaker. That’s not me. I’m pro-Biblical marriage!

By: American Decency Staff

Anti-gay, ‘decency’ activist featured speaker for National Day of Pray event in Muskegon.

According to the news media, that would be me.

A local news organization wrote a short article on my upcoming speaking engagement.

Anti-gay?  I don’t think of myself in that way.  I think of myself rather as a lover of Jesus Christ, a believer in His Holy Word. When I speak out against homosexuality, it is not out of hate, but out of a concern for the wellbeing of those involved in it. I know that I am a sinner and, but for the grace of God, who knows where I’d be in terms of any number of sins?

Also, the article first reported ADA as the organizer of a protest in Dallas Texas at the AT&T stadium to protest the Dallas Cowboys signing Michael Sam to its practice squad.  Sam is the first openly gay player drafted to the NFL.

That makes an interesting story-line, but it isn’t true.  We were not at all involved in that protest.

After I asked that the inaccuracy be retracted, the article no longer reports this, instead a correction clarifies that we are a so-called "similar" organization to that which protested Sam's drafting.

You may want to read the article yourself.  I did and then I read some of the comments at the bottom of the article

One of them stated,“The west side of the state is so bigoted.  That's why I stay away.  I only see it as these people being so insecure in their OWN sexuality.  Why else would someone else being gay bother them so much?”

So insecure in their OWN sexuality?   Seriously? Actually, I would say it is because I am so secure in my sexuality AS God designed me.   He created me man!

I am a male.  I have absolutely no confusion about that.  I am also not confused about my role as a male with my wife of 45 years.

I understand also that adultery goes against my sexuality.  It degrades my life and the life of another – perhaps many others.  Sexually transmitted diseases can and do destroy.  Too, I understand that homosexuality goes against my god-given sexuality.  Not only is it unnatural, but it is life-threatening.  Many have contracted AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and not survived.  God in His word calls it an abomination.

On the other hand, my very best friend in college was insecure in his sexuality.   I know this because we were roommates for awhile.  We spent many hours together and we talked about everything.  He was confused about his sexuality. He was in the beginning stages of trying to figure it out. His homosexuality was still much concealed.

I made contact with my friend’s older brother recently only to find out that my best friend in college had contracted AIDs after having a number of homosexual partners.  He suffered greatly in the last months of his life.  It was a terrific loss to his family and to the people he worked with.  Glen was one of the most gifted and caring individuals I ever knew.

In this politically correct culture in which we live, we scrub this kind of honest detail.  Bestiality, adultery, homosexuality, polygamy are unhealthy, unwise, degrading, and destructive.

But to just simply state straight out truth flies in the face of Hollywood, homosexuals, polygamists, liberals, the weak-kneed who go along with the crowd and don’t think for themselves.

Natural marriage – Biblical marriage is the most beautiful long term experience of my life-time.   In our forty-five years of marriage, Jan and I have tried to do marriage God’s way.  We have come a long way together, and we are still learning.

J.C. Ryle wrote long ago:

In no relation is so much earthly happiness to be found, if it be entered upon discreetly, advisedly and in the fear of God. In none is so much misery seen to follow, if it be taken in hand unadvisedly, lightly, wantonly and without thought.

The marriage relationship lies at the very root of the social system of nations. The public morality of a people, and the private happiness of the families which compose a nation, are deeply involved in the whole question of the law of marriage. The experience of all nations confirms the wisdom of our Lord's decision in this passage in the most striking manner. It is a fact clearly ascertained, that polygamy, and permission to obtain divorce on slight grounds, have a direct tendency to promote immorality. In short, the nearer a nation's laws about marriage approach to the law of Christ, the higher has the moral tone of that nation always proved to be.

That is the kind of marriage that I am for. That is what ADA stands for.

It is not enough to simply point out that homosexual "marriage" is not God's plan, we must also do everything in our power to encourage healthy Christian marriages.

That is why ADA is hosting a marriage Conference this June 5-7 at the Shack in Jugville, MI. If you live in the West Michigan area, you probably know that the Shack is known for its peaceful atmosphere, its beautiful flowers, and its delicious food. It is the perfect place to spend time with your spouse and other Christian couples.
