Parry, jab, bob and weave, Americans are still wondering about the truth of President Obama’s statements. There have been several occasions when he has said one thing, only to later say the opposite. Case in point would be his response to a letter that was sent in. The question asked was this: "Mr. President, why do you feel it's necessary to fundamentally transform the nation that has afforded you so much opportunity and success?" The president began his reply, “I don't think we have to fundamentally transform the nation…” And Bill O'Reilly reminded him, “But those are your words.”
Regardless of whether you believed the president’s responses during his interview with Bill O’Reilly or not, whether you think America needs to have a fundamental transformation or not, one thing is for sure, the president’s heart and the hearts of many Americans need to be fundamentally transformed.
There are many who don’t think that Bill went far enough with the issues; they think he stopped letting the president off the hook. Perhaps one reason for this is one of the closing statements he made; “I know you think maybe we haven't been fair, but I think your heart is in the right place.”
There have been several events which would make one wonder about whether President Obama’s heart is in the right place or not but we do know what God says about the heart and who can know the heart.“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” (Jeremiah 17:9-10)
Bill O’Reilly certainly doesn’t know the heart of President Obama; but God most definitely does. All unregenerate men have hearts which are beyond repair; they are wicked. God desires to exchange the hearts of all who will come to Him. He desires to replace that stony and wicked heart with a heart of flesh, a heart that desires to do God’s own good will (Ezekiel 11:19, 36:26).
This is one of the reasons we are called to pray for our president. 1 Timothy 2:1-3 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;”
I believe in the power of prayer and I believe in the power of God. May this verse move you to pray for all those in authority, especially our president. “The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” (Proverbs 21:1)
If you are like me, interviews like that described above don’t make it any easier for me to pray. I am disappointed with our president. Yet, God’s word is clear. My prayer for myself is help me to do His will in this area of my life.
Join me in praying for our president, other leaders in our country and around the world. There’s a great need for all to have a fundamentally transformed heart and life.
A side note in closing: Bill O’Reilly could use your prayers.
